Job Overview:
The Technical Lead (Research Reactor Operation and Maintenance) plays a crucial role within the Research Reactor Section (RRS) of the Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW). This position involves managing project activities that focus on enhancing the operational standards of research reactors. The Technical Lead is responsible for gathering and disseminating best practices related to research reactor commissioning, operation, and maintenance. This role also includes fostering partnerships and networks to improve operational standards and assisting Member States in evaluating and enhancing their operational practices. The Technical Lead will coordinate the development of technical reports and guidance documents related to research reactors, ensuring that these resources are aligned with international standards and best practices. The position requires a substantive expert who can manage complex projects and relationships with various stakeholders, including other agencies and Member States.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Lead will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: arranging and conducting consultancy meetings, technical meetings, conferences, and workshops focused on research reactor operation and maintenance; organizing peer review missions to assist Member States in improving their operational practices; preparing technical documents and reports on various aspects of research reactors; promoting and coordinating Coordinated Research Projects; managing e-tools such as research reactor information hubs and databases; providing technical assistance to Member States through relevant technical cooperation projects; and collaborating with various stakeholders, including international organizations and Member States, to enhance operational practices in research reactors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related technical field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related technical field, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of 10 years of working experience in the relevant subject area, with at least two years at an international level. Experience in the design, commissioning, management, operation, and modernization of research reactors is essential. Familiarity with project management and coordination is also required, along with experience in fuel cycle and research reactor modeling and analysis being an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's Degree) in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related technical discipline. Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields may be considered if they have additional relevant experience. The emphasis is on having a strong technical foundation in nuclear engineering principles, particularly as they relate to research reactors.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience, with a significant portion of that experience gained at an international level. This experience should encompass various aspects of research reactor operations, including design, commissioning, management, and modernization. Candidates should also have a proven track record in project management and coordination, demonstrating their ability to handle complex projects effectively.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $103,165, along with a variable post adjustment currently amounting to US $55,91
