Job Overview: CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated professional for the position of Finance Support Service. This role is crucial for the Financial Planning Unit within the Finance for Science and Innovation Chapter. The successful candidate will focus on finance, accounting, expense analysis, and cost reallocation. The position is based at CIMMYT’s campus in Texcoco, which is located 45 km northeast of Mexico City. The Finance Support Service will play a key role in the budgeting process for research projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting and analysis, and supporting institutional and research projects with financial insights. The candidate will work closely with various departments to gather necessary information for budgeting and forecasting, and will be responsible for preparing financial reports that comply with international standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Support Service will have a variety of responsibilities, including: actively participating in the budgeting process for research projects, liaising with the Program Finance Manager to maintain budget figures in the ERP system, executing monthly monitoring and financial analysis of project expenses, preparing and reporting financial information for internal users, ensuring compliance with international standards in financial reporting, contributing to the development of reporting templates and KPIs, supporting institutional and research projects with financial analysis, and responding to ad hoc requests for financial information. The role also requires collaboration with different areas of the organization to ensure accurate budgeting and forecasting, as well as the ability to perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in financial analysis, accounting, budgeting, and forecasting. Experience with ERP systems, particularly financial modules, is essential, as well as proficiency in MS Office and management of large databases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project finance management, including budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting, and will have experience engaging with senior management. Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify finance opportunities are crucial, along with advanced skills in Excel and Power BI for business intelligence dashboards. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are also required.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of financial management, budgeting, and accounting practices necessary for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of working experience in financial roles, particularly in financial analysis, accounting, budgeting, and forecasting. Experience in project finance management, especially within NGOs, non-profits, or international organizations, is preferred. Familiarity with international funders and the global development sector will be advantageous.
Languages: Proficiency in English at a C1 level is mandatory, with strong written and oral communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively, present information, and negotiate is essential. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not specified as mandatory.
