Job Overview: The Research Analyst I/II position at IFPRI's Development Strategy and Governance Unit is a critical role focused on conducting research that informs policy decisions in the agricultural and food sectors. The successful candidate will engage in various research projects that require the collection and analysis of household survey data. This position is based in Yangon, Myanmar, and may involve travel to rural areas for extended periods to facilitate data collection and fieldwork. Duties and Responsibilities: The specific duties of the Research Analyst I/II include, but are not limited to: collecting, cleaning, and analyzing both primary and secondary data; assisting in the design and implementation of household surveys, including sampling and questionnaire development; conducting various forms of data analysis, including statistical and econometric analysis; performing literature reviews and synthesizing findings; contributing to the writing of discussion papers, donor reports, and scholarly publications; coordinating field implementation of survey activities, which includes scoping, pretesting, and training survey enumerators; preparing large datasets for public access; developing data documentation manuals and other learning materials as necessary; helping to develop and coordinate technical workshops; and interacting with collaborators and project partners to ensure successful project execution. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications: For the Research Analyst I position, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. For the Research Analyst II position, a Master’s degree in the same fields is required, along with at least 3 years of post-Masters experience. Candidates must demonstrate experience in conducting literature reviews of academic publications and research reports, as well as experience in coordinating field activities and effectively interacting with collaborators and project partners. Proficiency in managing large quantitative datasets, performing in-depth statistical analysis, and fluency in both written and spoken English and the Myanmar language are essential. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and possess excellent interpersonal skills to thrive in a multi-cultural team environment.
Educational Background: Candidates for the Research Analyst I position must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Agricultural Economics, or International Development. For the Research Analyst II position, a Master’s degree in one of these fields is required. The educational background should provide a strong foundation in economic principles, research methodologies, and data analysis techniques relevant to the agricultural and food policy sectors.
Experience: The level of experience required varies by position. For Research Analyst I, a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required, while Research Analyst II candidates must have at least 3 years of post-Masters experience.
