The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was established to combat the global issues of drugs, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism. The Border Management Branch, created in April 2022, focuses on delivering comprehensive technical assistance in border management, including various programs aimed at addressing organized crime and environmental crimes.

Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Graphic Design within the UNODC Global Programme on Criminal Network Disruption (GPCD) is crucial for enhancing the visibility and branding of the organization. The volunteer will work under the guidance of the CRIMJUST Coordinator and collaborate closely with the communications team. The primary function of this role is to produce graphic designs that align with the GPCD Branding Guidelines. This includes creating various publications and reports that will support the branding efforts of UNODC and the Border Management Branch. The volunteer will gain valuable experience in how graphic design can be utilized to promote organizational goals and enhance professional visibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for a range of graphic design tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Designing a Standard Operations Procedure publication that adheres to the established branding guidelines.
  • Creating layouts for six donor reports, ensuring that they are visually appealing and informative.
  • Designing an editable cover/template for regular narrative reports, allowing for easy updates and modifications.
  • Developing covers for two final narrative reports, ensuring they reflect the professionalism of UNODC.
  • Laying out three publications and impact documents, focusing on clarity and engagement. This role provides an opportunity to collaborate with the Global Programme team and understand the impact of graphic design in supporting organizational branding.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong foundation in graphic design principles and practices. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a keen eye for detail, creativity, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills are also important to effectively convey design concepts and collaborate with team members.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should ideally be pursuing or have completed a degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a similar discipline. Knowledge of branding and marketing principles will be advantageous.

Experience:
While prior experience in graphic design is beneficial, it is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate a portfolio of previous design work that showcases their skills and creativity. Experience working in a collaborative environment or on projects related to non-profit organizations or international development is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and design guidelines will be provided in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to UNODC's work, is considered an asset but not a requirement.
