Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position under the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children (SRSG-VAC) is designed for individuals who are passionate about human rights and the protection of children. The intern will support the SRSG in her mandate to prevent and eliminate all forms of violence against children globally. This role involves engaging with various stakeholders, including UN bodies, national institutions, and civil society organizations, to promote awareness and action against violence towards children. The intern will assist in monitoring developments, organizing events, and conducting research to support the SRSG's initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the workings of the UN and contribute to meaningful change in the lives of children worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the work of the Office of the SRSG-VAC. These include monitoring relevant developments regarding efforts to end violence against children, assisting with routine administrative tasks, organizing conferences and meetings, taking notes, and writing summaries of discussions. The intern will also help with research tasks, updating country profiles, and preparing for country visits. Additionally, the intern will work on strengthening child participation in the Office's initiatives, including preparing child-friendly documents and documenting child-led initiatives. The intern may accompany team members to meetings with delegates and perform other functions as requested by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). No prior work experience is required, but relevant training, education, or skills that would benefit the UN during the internship are encouraged. Previous UN internship experience should be noted, including the UN entity and assignment dates if applicable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a strong educational background, either in a graduate program or in the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational experience should be relevant to the work of the UN and the specific focus on human rights and violence against children.

Experience:
While no specific work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge that would contribute to the UN's mission. This could include coursework, volunteer work, or other experiences related to human rights, child protection, or international relations.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory, along with proficiency in one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of additional UN languages such as Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish is considered a strong asset and may enhance the candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This internship is expected to last between three to six months and can be conducted remotely or in New York City. Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. For non-U.S. citizens, obtaining a G4 visa is mandatory, and candidates must ensure they have the appropriate visa and work authorization before accepting the internship offer.
