Job Overview:
The GESI & HSSE Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the Integrated Medical Waste Program for the Advanced Community Transformation Project in Bangladesh. This position involves working closely with the Project Manager and other team members to ensure effective planning, coordination, and implementation of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Health, Safety, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security, and Environment (HSSE) initiatives. The associate will assist in organizing awareness sessions, preparing monitoring reports, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with HSSE requirements. The role is vital for enhancing the medical waste management capacity of district hospitals and promoting inclusive practices within the project framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • GESI & HSSE Planning, Coordination, and Implementation: - Prepare HSSE documentation for review and approval. - Organize GESI awareness and capacity-building sessions for personnel and stakeholders. - Contribute to GESI-related monitoring reports and analyze participation indicators. - Review and update HSSE management plans. - Conduct risk assessments and implement preventive measures for HSSE hazards. - Plan and conduct workplace inspections, ensuring timely closure of findings. - Facilitate awareness sessions on HSSE and Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH). - Prepare incident reports and support investigations. - Develop monthly HSSE reports and analyze leading indicators.
  • GESI & HSSE Monitoring and Reporting: - Conduct field inspections and monitoring visits to project sites. - Collaborate with project teams to ensure accessible consultation and grievance mechanisms. - Organize and participate in HSSE meetings with contractors and document action items.
  • GESI & HSSE Compliance and Risk Mitigation: - Ensure compliance with UNOPS HSSE requirements. - Conduct GESI risk assessments to identify barriers to participation. - Implement measures to minimize hazards and environmental impacts. - Monitor contractor compliance with HSSE plans and provide recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of GESI and HSSE principles, along with the ability to effectively communicate and engage with diverse stakeholders. The candidate should possess skills in planning, organizing, and conducting training sessions. Familiarity with monitoring and reporting frameworks related to GESI and HSSE is essential. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, environmental sciences, public health, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in GESI and HSSE practices will be considered an asset. The educational background should reflect a solid understanding of the principles and practices relevant to the position.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in GESI and HSSE roles, preferably within the context of international development or humanitarian projects. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or UN organizations will be highly regarded. The ability to demonstrate successful project management and coordination skills is crucial for this position.

Languages:
Fluency in Bengali is mandatory, as it is the official language of Bangladesh. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the working language of UN agencies. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse community stakeholders.
