The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) is a Special Political Mission established in 2016 by the UN security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council. Its primary mission is to verify the implementation of the Final Peace Agreement between the Government of Colombia and the FARC-EP, and to assist Colombia in its commitment to ending the conflict and building peace. The mission focuses on five key areas of the agreement, including comprehensive rural reform, the reintegration of former combatants, security guarantees, restorative sentences, and the Ethnic Chapter of the Final Agreement. The UNVMC plays a crucial role in supporting dialogue and conflict resolution efforts in Colombia, contributing to a sustainable peace process.

Job Overview:
The UNV Team in the UNVMC is seeking a creative and skilled online volunteer to support translation and digital communications efforts. The volunteer will be responsible for developing graphic design products that amplify the contributions of UN Volunteers to the peace process in Colombia and promote volunteerism. This role involves translating stories into English, which will contribute to advocacy campaigns and audience engagement, raising awareness about the vital role of UN Volunteers in the UNVMC mandate. The volunteer will write personal stories from UN Volunteers serving in various regional offices in Colombia, ensuring that these narratives highlight their contributions to the peace process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Write Stories: The online volunteer will write at least ten personal stories from UN Volunteers involved in the peace process, focusing on their contributions and experiences.
  • Edit and Submit Stories: After collecting testimonies and writing the stories, the volunteer will edit them and create a graphic design template for submission via email.
  • Ensure Quality and Authenticity: The volunteer will review and edit the stories to ensure they meet quality standards, are authentic, and relevant to the peace process.
  • Collaborate with UNV Team: Work closely with the UNV Team to align the stories with the mission's objectives and messaging.
  • Participate in Skill Development: Engage in training sessions provided by UN experts to enhance storytelling and writing skills.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong writing and storytelling skills, with a creative approach to content creation. Familiarity with graphic design tools is preferred, as the volunteer will be responsible for creating visually appealing templates for the stories. Additionally, the candidate should have a good understanding of the peace process in Colombia and the role of UN Volunteers. Strong editing skills and attention to detail are essential to ensure the quality and authenticity of the narratives.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have experience in writing and storytelling, particularly in contexts related to peacebuilding or volunteerism. Knowledge of graphic design principles and tools will be beneficial for this role.

Experience:
While prior experience in a similar role is advantageous, it is not strictly required. The volunteer should demonstrate a passion for storytelling and a commitment to supporting the peace process in Colombia. Experience in volunteer work or engagement with UN initiatives will be considered a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the volunteer will be translating stories into English. Proficiency in Spanish is also highly desirable, given the context of the work and the need to communicate effectively with local volunteers and stakeholders.
