Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in the Philippines offers a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain practical experience in an international setting. The intern will support the UN's mission in the Philippines by engaging in economic and social research, policy analysis, and administrative tasks. This role is designed to enhance the intern's understanding of UN programming and multilateral engagement while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The internship is expected to last between three to six months, providing a comprehensive introduction to the workings of the UN and its impact on sustainable development in the Philippines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the RCO's functions, including:
  • Research and Policy Analysis: - Collecting and analyzing economic and social studies, reports, and data relevant to the Philippines' development priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (CF) for 2024-202
  • - Monitoring and summarizing recent trends and policy developments in economic and social sectors.
  • Report Preparation: - Assisting in the preparation of briefing notes, background documents, policy briefs, and other materials for both internal and external stakeholders. - Drafting, editing, and formatting reports, presentations, and communication materials.
  • Coordination and Administrative Support: - Organizing meetings, consultations, and events related to economic and social policy and programming. - Assisting in the organization of hybrid and digitally enabled coordination meetings, workshops, and events. - Preparing actionable documentation such as minutes, summaries, and follow-up action points from meetings. The intern will report to the RCO Head of Office and collaborate with the RCO Senior Economist and other team members as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess strong analytical, research, and writing skills, with a demonstrated interest in development issues and the work of the United Nations. Familiarity with economic data sources and statistical tools, such as Excel or SPSS, is advantageous. Proficiency in standard software applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel, is required. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and adapt to team dynamics. Knowledge of Tagalog is desirable, and the UN encourages applications from individuals with disabilities and members of Indigenous Peoples groups.

Educational Background:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as Economics, Development Studies, Political Economy, Public Policy, or a related discipline.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in a relevant academic program or have recently completed their studies. While prior professional experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or volunteer work in development, research, or policy analysis will be considered an asset. The position is ideal for those looking to gain practical experience in an international organization and contribute to meaningful development initiatives.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Filipino are mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, but proficiency in English and Filipino is essential for effective communication within the UN and with various stakeholders.

This internship is a full-time, unpaid opportunity, requiring interns to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The expected duration of the internship is from July 1 to August 31, 202
