Job Overview: The position of Graphic Designer (Desktop Publishing) involves creating two professionally designed, publication-ready strategic documents: the UN Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (MCSDCF) and the Trinidad and Tobago 2025 Common Country Analysis (CCA). The designer will work from home in Trinidad and Tobago for a duration of two months, focusing on producing high-quality publications that champion the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region. The designer will be expected to adhere to UN branding guidelines and ensure that the final products are accessible and visually appealing, thereby enhancing the communication of key messages and findings.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Graphic Designer include: designing and laying out two publication-ready reports, developing a coherent visual identity for each publication, designing various components such as covers, title pages, and tables of contents, establishing a consistent typography and color palette, redesigning existing figures and charts to meet professional standards, creating new infographics and data visualizations, sourcing and integrating high-quality visuals, processing images for print and digital formats, formatting references and citations, preparing publications for digital distribution and print production, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards, incorporating feedback through multiple rounds of revisions, delivering editable source files, and ensuring timely delivery of all outputs while maintaining accuracy and adherence to UN branding guidelines.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include completed secondary education, with a diploma, degree, or recognized professional certification in graphic design, visual communication, desktop publishing, fine arts, or a related field considered an asset. A minimum of five years of demonstrated professional experience in graphic design and desktop publishing is required, particularly in the layout of long-form reports and strategic documents. Experience designing publications for the United Nations or similar organizations is essential, along with a proven clientele of local, regional, and international clients. Additional qualifications include experience in producing data visualizations and accessible PDFs, as well as familiarity with branding and visibility guidelines from organizations such as the UN, EU, or World Bank.
Educational Background: Candidates are required to have completed secondary education, with further education in graphic design, visual communication, desktop publishing, fine arts, or a related field being advantageous.
