Job Overview: The Communication Specialist (Digital Content) serves as the technical lead for creating, coordinating, and disseminating engaging digital content that enhances UNICEF South Sudan's visibility and influence, particularly in emergency contexts. This role is crucial for ensuring high-quality storytelling, multimedia production, and digital engagement that effectively highlights the situation of women and children, showcases program impact, acknowledges donor contributions, and supports advocacy and fundraising priorities. The specialist is responsible for planning and delivering impactful content across various digital platforms, including social media and the UNICEF South Sudan website. Reporting to the Chief of Advocacy and Communications, the incumbent is accountable for implementing the office's digital communication strategy and driving innovative online campaigns, ensuring brand consistency, optimizing audience engagement, and monitoring digital performance to strengthen outreach and stakeholder engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Specialist will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
Digital Planning: Implementing a comprehensive digital content plan for all UNICEF South Sudan platforms, developing a robust monitoring framework to track digital analytics, and ensuring the content planner is updated weekly.
Content Production: Collaborating with the Chief of Communication and program teams to identify and develop compelling program impact stories, ensuring timely dissemination of digital content, and supporting the production of multimedia content such as infographics, videos, and social media packages.
Website Management: Ensuring the UNICEF South Sudan website is regularly updated with high-quality content that aligns with communication objectives, drafting content for custom web pages, and monitoring audience reach and engagement.
Digital Campaigns: Developing and implementing local digital campaigns to advance the country advocacy strategy, as well as connecting with global advocacy campaigns.
Resource Mobilization and Donor Recognition: Creating content to fulfill donor visibility obligations and organizing coverage of key donor activities.
Capacity Building: Advising UNICEF colleagues on social media and identifying opportunities to strengthen partners' capacities through training.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of digital communication strategies and tools, with proven experience in content creation and management. They should demonstrate excellent storytelling abilities and a keen eye for detail, ensuring that all content aligns with UNICEF's brand and communication objectives. Strong analytical skills are essential for monitoring digital performance and audience engagement. Additionally, candidates should have experience in managing social media platforms and digital campaigns, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in digital communication or media production are advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the principles of child rights and humanitarian work, as well as familiarity with UNICEF's mission and values.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in digital communication, content creation, or related fields. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly in challenging environments, is highly desirable. Proven track record of managing digital campaigns and producing multimedia content is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in South Sudan, is considered an asset and may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Juba, South Sudan, and may require travel within the country. The role is full-time and involves working in a challenging environment that requires flexibility and adaptability.
