Job Overview:
The IMEO Senior Consultant will play a pivotal role in providing strategic guidance aligned with UNEP's vision and mission. This position is crucial for enhancing the leadership's ability to make informed, strategic decisions regarding methane emissions reduction. The consultant will be responsible for supporting the Head of IMEO in strategic planning and decision-making processes, ensuring that the organization effectively addresses the challenges posed by methane emissions, which are a significant contributor to climate change. The consultant will leverage their extensive experience to provide actionable recommendations that will shape the future direction of IMEO and contribute to achieving the goals set forth in the Paris Agreement. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental science and policy, as well as the ability to communicate complex scientific information to diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The IMEO Senior Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing regular advice and guidance to the Head of IMEO, supporting strategic decision-making and long-term planning, and developing written strategic recommendations. The consultant will also be tasked with summarizing and presenting scientific information in a manner that is accessible to various stakeholders, from senior scientists to the general public. Additionally, the consultant will identify potential new opportunities for growth and innovation within the IMEO framework, ensuring that the organization remains at the forefront of methane emissions mitigation efforts. The consultant will be expected to engage with various data sources, including methane-detecting satellites and industry reporting, to inform strategic recommendations and enhance IMEO's impact.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in environmental studies, public administration, or a related field. A PhD in public policy, business, engineering, political science, or environmental science is considered an asset. Furthermore, a minimum of 15 years of experience in environmental science, policy analysis, or advocacy is required. Familiarity with the oil and gas sector, particularly concerning major methane emissions sources and mitigation strategies, is essential. The ability to effectively summarize and present scientific information to a variety of audiences is crucial, as is intellectual agility and comfort in working across a wide range of environmental topics.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as environmental studies or public administration. A PhD in a related discipline is advantageous and will enhance the candidate's qualifications for this senior role. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in environmental science, policy, or advocacy, equipping the consultant with the necessary knowledge to address complex environmental challenges.

Experience:
The position requires a substantial level of experience, specifically a minimum of 15 years in fields related to environmental science, policy analysis, or advocacy. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of working in roles that involve strategic decision-making and leadership within the environmental sector. Languages:
English is the primary working language of UNEP's IMEO, and proficiency in English is mandatory for this position.
