Job Overview: The Donor Engagement Director is responsible for managing a portfolio of critical priority donors, including the World Bank, UN agencies, and governments such as Canada and the United States, as well as Gulf states. This role involves leading and coordinating IRC's funding-focused engagement with these donors, developing strategies for proactive donor relationships, and overseeing a team of Senior Advisors. The Donor Engagement Director will work closely with technical and proposal development teams to secure funding and will be a key expert in donor relations, engaging with high-level stakeholders and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the organization. The position requires a strategic approach to donor engagement, with a focus on building long-term partnerships and enhancing IRC's visibility and influence within the donor community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive multi-year engagement strategies for key donors within the portfolio, coordinating actions with relevant stakeholders across IRC.
Maintain a network of senior stakeholders within relevant donor organizations to ensure effective engagement and influence.
Represent IRC in meetings with donor officials, preparing and following up on engagements to translate discussions into actionable business development strategies.
Identify and broker relationships with key donor officials, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of donor strategies and priorities.
Manage a team responsible for developing and implementing donor engagement strategies, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the organization.
Oversee leadership of existing global framework projects with donors, ensuring effective award management and reporting.
Drive new opportunities for developing frameworks or strategic partnerships with donors.
Foster a positive working culture within the team, supporting team members' professional growth and development.
Equip IRC staff with the necessary skills and tools for effective donor engagement and business development. 1
Participate in strategic and operational groups focused on donor engagement and priority strategy implementation.
Required Qualifications:
Over 10 years of experience in leadership roles within the humanitarian sector, particularly in business development, program management, or advocacy.
Significant experience working directly with key donors in the portfolio, including the UN, World Bank, Canada, and the United States.
Strong understanding of the humanitarian and development geopolitical context, including the donor landscape.
Proven ability to lead and manage projects, including experience working with remote or virtual teams.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with a track record of producing influential reports and targeted briefing documents.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in international relations, public policy, business administration, or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in humanitarian assistance, international development, or related disciplines may be preferred.
Experience: Candidates should have extensive experience in leadership roles within the humanitarian sector, particularly in areas related to business development and donor engagement. Experience working with international organizations or multilateral development banks is highly desirable, as is a proven track record of building relationships with key donors and stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French, is preferred and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and may involve international travel. The compensation range for this role is between $120,000 and $155,000, depending on various factors such as labor market conditions, job type, and individual candidate experience. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States.
