Job Overview: The consultant position is focused on supporting the Mitigation Branch and UNEP India Office in accelerating the adoption of passive cooling solutions in India. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including government entities, public sector undertakings, cities, private players, academia, and industry, to recommend and implement passive cooling solutions in real estate projects. The consultant will work closely with the UNEP India Office and will be home-based, providing technical support as part of the Cities Unit of the Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division. The consultant's expertise will be crucial in integrating passive cooling solutions into building designs to ensure effective heat adaptation, contributing to a comprehensive approach to cooling in buildings under the framework of the Cool Coalition.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will perform a range of tasks that include providing technical support for UNEP projects aimed at scaling up passive cooling in India. This involves liaising with various stakeholders, conducting building energy analyses, and advocating for energy efficiency and heat adaptation strategies. The consultant will also be responsible for offering design assistance to real estate developers, ensuring that passive cooling solutions are effectively integrated into their projects. Additionally, the consultant will engage with building developers and real estate associations to promote energy efficiency and sustainable building practices, contributing to the overall goals of the Cool Coalition.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of experience in a relevant field, with a strong focus on providing design assistance to real estate developers in the context of sustainable and energy-efficient building construction. Essential qualifications include experience in building energy analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and advocacy for energy efficiency or heat adaptation. The qualifying years of experience are calculated from the date of obtaining the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations.
Educational Background: A first-level university degree in a relevant field is required. This educational background should ideally be complemented by further studies or certifications related to sustainable building practices, energy efficiency, or environmental science.
Experience: The position requires at least five years of relevant professional experience, particularly in areas related to sustainable building design, energy efficiency, and passive cooling solutions. Experience working with real estate developers and engaging in advocacy for energy-efficient practices is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This position is part-time and expected to last for 12 months. The consultant will work remotely, and there are no fees associated with the recruitment process.
