Job Overview: The internship at UN Women Sierra Leone is designed to provide a unique opportunity for graduates to gain practical experience in various sectors that empower women and youth. Interns will work under the guidance of designated Programme specialists or operations managers, collaborating closely with the UN Women team to support the implementation of program activities and administrative functions of the country office. The internship aims to create a multilateral sectoral learning environment, allowing interns to engage in areas such as agriculture, trade, fisheries, digital innovations, and governance. Interns will have the chance to enhance their skills through mentorship programs led by experienced professionals, gaining insights into their career aspirations while contributing to the agency's key portfolio areas. Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to perform a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall goals of UN Women. Responsibilities may include conducting research, assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations, supporting program implementation, and engaging in stakeholder outreach. Interns will also be involved in organizing events and workshops, collecting and analyzing data, and providing administrative support as needed. The role requires effective collaboration with team members and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while producing high-quality deliverables in a timely manner. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in discussions and contribute ideas that align with UN Women’s mission and objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills. They should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in collaborative settings and manage competing priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential, and familiarity with basic design applications is considered an asset. Educational Background: Applicants must be pursuing university studies in relevant disciplines such as agriculture, trade, fisheries, digital innovations, gender studies, or related fields. Candidates should meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent), be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level), have graduated within the last year, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program that requires the internship as part of the curriculum.
Experience: While prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in gender equality, women's empowerment, or related fields will be considered an advantage. Interns should be eager to learn and willing to engage in various tasks that contribute to their professional development and the mission of UN Women.
Languages: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required. Knowledge of another UN language is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's application.
Additional Notes: This internship is part of a roster of qualified interns, meaning it is not a direct recruitment but rather a pool from which UN Women can select candidates as needs arise. Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend to help cover basic living costs during the internship.
