Job Overview: The Communication Officer position is crucial for the design and implementation of the communication strategy for the UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation, Forest Whitaker, and the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI). This role involves supporting the partnership with UNESCO and its programs that focus on empowering youth and women in peacebuilding and sustainable development. The Communication Officer will work remotely from Paris and will be responsible for creating communication materials, managing social media presence, and ensuring effective communication across various platforms. The position requires a proactive approach to developing strategies that enhance the visibility of WPDI's initiatives and foster collaboration with other organizations and stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Liaising with relevant units within UNESCO to ensure effective communication regarding the partnership with the Special Envoy.
Supporting the partnership strategy of WPDI by preparing communication materials that highlight synergies with UNESCO's Sciences Sector.
Developing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy for WPDI across various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and traditional media.
Creating tailored communication plans for specific partners or events.
Drafting and editing a variety of communication materials such as op-eds, articles, speeches, blog posts, press releases, and newsletters.
Preparing briefings and fact sheets to support the missions of the Special Envoy.
Coordinating high-visibility activities and campaigns for WPDI.
Ensuring the quality and dissemination of reports and technical materials to enhance the visibility of WPDI's programs in target countries.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in communications, print media, digital and social media, or public relations is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of communication strategies and possess the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or its equivalent, in fields such as Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or other relevant areas of study. This advanced education is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to excel in the role of Communication Officer.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience in communications, which may include roles in print media, digital and social media, public relations, or other related fields. This level of experience is crucial for the candidate to effectively manage communication strategies and engage with various stakeholders in a professional capacity.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position.
