Job Overview:
The Life Sciences Specialist position is situated within the Projects Directorate (PJ) of the EIB, specifically in the Innovation and Competitiveness Department (INCO) and the Life Sciences and Health Division (LSH). This role is pivotal in assessing and supporting innovative Life Sciences projects, primarily within the European Union. The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team, providing independent advice on sector policies and the quality of investment projects. The Life Sciences Specialist will evaluate the strategic consistency, technical feasibility, commercial viability, and economic sustainability of proposed projects, ensuring they align with the EIB's due diligence process. This position also involves regular travel to project locations, contributing to the monitoring and restructuring of projects, and engaging in sectoral tasks that support the EIB's broader objectives in health and innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Life Sciences Specialist, your responsibilities will include:
  • Evaluating and documenting the strategic consistency, technical feasibility, commercial viability, and economic sustainability of innovative Life Sciences projects.
  • Overseeing project implementation to ensure alignment with agreed objectives and EIB safeguards.
  • Providing tailored technical assistance and expert advice to project promoters and stakeholders throughout the project cycle.
  • Collaborating with internal and external partners to identify new investment opportunities in the Life Sciences sector.
  • Applying and monitoring EIB standards in Climate, Environmental, Social, and Procurement governance.
  • Preparing comprehensive sector-relevant communications, including summaries of emerging trends and policy briefings.
  • Maintaining professional knowledge of industry best practices and macroeconomic trends in the Life Sciences sector.
  • Participating in sector initiatives and priority activities as identified by the Bank.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (minimum equivalent to a master's level) in a relevant life sciences or engineering subject. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in a private sector environment, such as a pharmaceutical or biotech company, consulting firm, research institute, or financial institution focused on life sciences, is required. Candidates should have an in-depth understanding of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, including the processes required to bring a product from development to market and the financing of innovative life sciences companies. Excellent writing skills and the ability to draft reports and policy briefings for a wider audience are essential. Knowledge of EU policies and current trends in the life sciences sector is also required.

Educational Background:
The position requires a university degree in a relevant field, such as life sciences or engineering, at least at the master's level. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the life sciences sector and the associated investment projects.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is necessary for this role. This experience should be gained within the life sciences industry, particularly in environments such as pharmaceutical or biotech companies, consulting firms, or financial institutions that focus on life sciences. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the industry and its dynamics.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and a good command of French is also required. Knowledge of other EU languages would be considered a distinct advantage. The EIB values multilingualism and encourages candidates with diverse language skills to apply.
