Job Overview:
The position of Disaster-Resilience Expert is crucial for supporting the implementation of a project aimed at addressing the urgent mobility challenges faced by Malé City, Maldives. The project is a response to a request for technical assistance from the Malé City Council, which is grappling with severe traffic congestion and the impacts of natural hazards on transport operations. The expert will be responsible for developing a comprehensive decongestion and disaster resilience roadmap tailored to the local context. This involves conducting a Disaster Risk Assessment (DRA), engaging with stakeholders, and delivering capacity-building workshops to enhance the city's resilience to extreme weather events. The expert will collaborate closely with the ESCAP project team and municipal authorities to ensure effective project outcomes and timely delivery of the roadmap.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Disaster-Resilience Expert will undertake several key responsibilities, including:

• Participating in the initial consultation workshop in Malé to engage with stakeholders and support the development of the DRA.
• Conducting the DRA, which will serve as the empirical basis for the final roadmap, ensuring that any necessary on-site inspections are coordinated with the national consultant.
• Developing the disaster-resilience component of the roadmap in collaboration with the urban mobility expert to ensure a cohesive output.
• Presenting the roadmap and its guidelines at the capacity-building workshop in Malé, facilitating informed decision-making among stakeholders.
• Ensuring effective engagement and coordination with relevant stakeholders and the national consultant throughout the project to guarantee consistency across different components of the roadmap.
• Delivering timely submissions of the roadmap and clear presentations of methodologies and key recommendations during workshops.
