Job Overview:
As a Lawyer in the Corporate, Employment and Litigation Division at the EIB, you will be tasked with representing the bank in litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union. This role requires providing legal advice on institutional and EU law, addressing legal questions related to the EIB's operations, including its Transparency Policy, Anti-Fraud Policy, and staff-related legal issues. The position demands a proactive approach to legal research and the ability to maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You will work closely with other lawyers and departments within the EIB, ensuring that the bank's legal interests are well-represented and protected.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice in the form of notes and opinions on complex legal matters relevant to the division's responsibilities.
  • Represent the EIB as an agent in litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
  • Conduct thorough research and studies on legal issues pertinent to the division's work.
  • Act as a representative of the EIB’s Legal Service in various internal and external working groups, meetings, panels, and task forces.
  • Liaise with external counsel and supervise their work as necessary.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the division’s counterparts both within and outside the EIB.
  • Participate in activities that are relevant to the division’s objectives.
  • Stay updated on relevant legal developments to ensure the EIB's compliance and strategic positioning.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with external legal advisers and represent the EIB in external engagements.

Required Qualifications:
  • A university degree in law, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master’s degree.
  • A Master’s degree in EU law and bar qualification would be considered a strong asset.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within EU institutions or reputable international law firms.
  • Experience in EU litigation is a distinct advantage.
  • A deep understanding of EU law is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in standard computer tools and familiarity with databases related to EU law is required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in law, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree in EU law is preferred, and bar qualification is considered a strong asset for this position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably gained in EU institutions or reputable international law firms. Experience in EU litigation is particularly advantageous, as it aligns closely with the responsibilities of the role.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and/or French is mandatory, with a good command of the other language. Knowledge of additional languages spoken within the European Union would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for this position.

This is a full-time position at grade 5, offering a permanent contract. The EIB provides relocation support for successful candidates. Panel interviews are anticipated for the first half of July.
