Job Overview:
CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, innovative, proactive, and initiative-driven individual for the position of General Research Assistant to support research activities, assisting in various stages of the research cycle such as planting, harvesting, and related activities. The selected candidate will work at one of our Experimental Stations located in Texcoco, San Sebastian- Metepec, Agua Fria- Puebla, and Ciudad Obregón. This position is temporary and requires a hands-on approach to support the research team effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities include supporting seed cleaning, preparing necessary materials for planting, preparing soils for fields or greenhouses, assisting in the planting of assigned seeds (both mechanically and manually), caring for planted seeds or crops (such as scaring away birds or rodents that may damage crops), assisting in the installation of irrigation equipment, supporting crosses (emasculations and/or pollinations) according to the immediate supervisor's instructions, assisting in pollination and ear formation of crops, supporting the harvest of unit materials (using machinery and/or manually), assisting in de-leafing, threshing, or cleaning harvested materials (with appropriate machinery), supporting the grinding of materials, preparing materials for separating and identifying seeds (envelopes, bags, labels), updating seed inventories, identifying and classifying materials, assisting in shelling, cleaning, weighing, and packaging seeds, and maintaining cleanliness in green areas or common areas to contribute to the conservation of the station's facilities in adequate conditions. Additionally, the candidate will perform any other support tasks required in the unit as per the immediate supervisor's instructions.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum education level of primary school is required. No prior experience is necessary, but having experience will be considered an advantage. The candidate must possess strong manual skills and demonstrate initiative. The selected individual should exhibit competencies such as critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and customer orientation.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position is a minimum of primary school education. This foundational level of education is essential to ensure that the candidate can understand and follow instructions effectively in a research environment.

Experience:
While no specific experience is required for this position, any relevant experience in agricultural research or related fields will be considered a plus.
