Job Overview:
The UNV Media and Digital Communications Expert position is designed to enhance UNICEF's communication strategies in Pakistan, particularly in the context of polio eradication efforts. The expert will play a crucial role in developing and implementing an AI-assisted digital social behavior change (SBC) strategy that aligns with the priorities of the Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI). This role involves creating content that resonates with local communities, addressing misinformation, and building trust in vaccination efforts. The volunteer will work closely with various teams to ensure that communication strategies are evidence-based and community-centered, ultimately contributing to the health and safety of children in Pakistan. Duties and Responsibilities:
The UNV Media and Digital Communications Expert will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting the development of a comprehensive AI-enabled digital SBC strategy that aligns with PEI priorities.
  • Creating an AI-assisted SBC content pipeline that includes behaviorally framed message variants and multilingual adaptations.
  • Co-creating narratives for pre-bunking and debunking misinformation in local languages.
  • Planning and overseeing targeted digital campaigns that align with vaccination efforts.
  • Monitoring digital engagement performance and making necessary strategy adjustments.
  • Strengthening online and offline social feedback mechanisms using AI analytics.
  • Automating data aggregation and sentiment analysis to identify behavioral trends and misinformation patterns.
  • Developing rapid response protocols for misinformation.
  • Coordinating real-time rumor responses with relevant teams. 1
  • Facilitating training sessions on AI applications and misinformation management for communication teams. 1
  • Documenting lessons learned and best practices for internal knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong skills in strategic communications, digital content creation, and social media management. They should have a solid understanding of AI applications in communication and experience in community engagement strategies. Familiarity with health communication, particularly in the context of vaccination campaigns, is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate creativity, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision-making are also required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, public health, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of communication strategies and public health initiatives.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2-3 years of professional experience in communications, public health, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in health communication or community engagement, is highly desirable. Languages:

Additional Notes:
This position is a volunteer role under the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program. The assignment duration is typically for a year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The role is full-time and requires the volunteer to be based in Islamabad, Pakistan. The UNV unit will assist with initial accommodation arrangements, and the volunteer will receive a living allowance to cover basic expenses.
