Job Overview:
The Consultant position within the Communication and Information Sector of UNESCO is designed to enhance the visibility and outreach of the Memory of the World (MoW) Programme. This role is crucial for promoting documentary heritage and ensuring that the achievements of various projects are effectively communicated to a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, educators, and the general public. The consultant will be responsible for developing tailored communication plans, producing high-quality visibility materials, and managing digital platforms to engage target audiences. The position requires a proactive approach to communication, with a focus on maximizing the impact of UNESCO's initiatives in documentary heritage preservation and accessibility. The consultant will work closely with the Documentary Heritage Unit and other relevant stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with UNESCO's broader communication strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the visibility of the MoW Programme. Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and updating tailored communication plans for MoW projects, producing high-visibility materials such as news articles, success stories, press releases, and social media content.
  • Assisting in data collection for UNESCO's 2015 Recommendation concerning the Preservation of Documentary Heritage, managing communication with Member States, and supporting the dissemination of surveys.
  • Proposing engaging content ideas and supporting their development, including infographics and audiovisual materials.
  • Liaising with team members and stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Serving as the focal point for communication regarding the UNESCO Jikji Prize, managing documentation and outreach materials.
  • Ensuring timely updates on the MoW website and coordinating with relevant colleagues to resolve technical issues.
  • Assisting in the preparation of briefings, background papers, and project proposals as requested. The consultant will also be responsible for providing monthly reports on activities and progress.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations, or social sciences. They should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in communication, outreach, and advocacy, particularly in areas related to UNESCO. Experience in preparing high-quality visibility materials and developing communication strategies for international dissemination is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical, drafting, and editing skills in English and French, as well as proficiency in content management systems and graphic design tools. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are also required, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field such as communications, journalism, international relations, or social sciences. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and the nuances of international collaboration in the context of UNESCO's mission.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant professional work experience in communication, outreach, and advocacy, with a preference for experience related to UNESCO's initiatives. At least 1 year of this experience should be at the international level, demonstrating the ability to navigate the complexities of global communication and collaboration.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English is mandatory, along with good knowledge of French. Proficiency in both languages is crucial for producing high-quality communication materials and engaging with diverse stakeholders effectively.

  • The position is remote, and no travel will be supported. The maximum fee for the assignment is set at 2700 EUR per month.
