Job Overview: The Consultant position is primarily focused on providing technical assistance and pedagogical support to educational leaders and teachers in prioritized educational institutions in the Moquegua region of Peru. The role is part of the UNESCO-Quellaveco-Reimagina project, which aims to enhance educational transformation processes by strengthening student learning through active methodologies, socio-emotional and digital competencies, and connecting schools with their communities. The consultant will work under the authority of the head of the UNESCO Office and the direct supervision of the Education Coordinator and the Project Coordinator. The consultant is expected to promote the integration of environmental, social, and economic issues into educational planning and to support the implementation of active methodologies aligned with the principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This position requires a commitment to fostering global citizenship competencies and sustainability in educational practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Programmatic Planning and Coordination: - Promote the integration of local environmental, social, and economic issues into educational planning. - Support educational leaders in strengthening pedagogical leadership focused on sustainability. - Facilitate the connection between educational institutions and local stakeholders (community, organizations, productive sector). - Ensure that educational projects address real issues and contribute to local sustainable development.
Pedagogical Advisory: - Assist in the implementation of active methodologies (e.g., project-based learning, experiential learning, design thinking) while integrating sustainability. - Guide the design of learning projects linked to local challenges and aligned with sustainability principles. - Strengthen teachers' competencies for sustainable development, including critical thinking, problem-solving, responsible decision-making, and collaborative work. - Promote interdisciplinary learning experiences that connect schools and communities. - Encourage the pedagogical use of technology to solve real problems. - Support the development of educational pathways and life projects with a sustainable focus. - Implement the plan for the coordinated attention of unidocent and multigrade schools under the Reimagina Program.
Reporting: - Systematize information on pedagogical progress and project implementation. - Incorporate indicators for the development of sustainability competencies. - Analyze the impact of projects on learning and the environment. - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and final reports with a focus on continuous improvement. - Document best practices and transformative experiences.
Teamwork: - Foster a positive team spirit and collaborative atmosphere that contributes to the overall performance of the project. - Regularly participate in project team meetings and contribute to the UNESCO Peru Education team meetings as appropriate. - Promote teacher learning communities and facilitate the exchange of experiences among educational institutions. - Contribute to strengthening networking efforts.
Other Functions: - Support the organization of project events (festivals, congresses, innovation spaces). - Contribute to the visibility of innovative educational experiences.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications: - A degree in Education or a related field such as anthropology, sociology, or social sciences. - Specialization in areas such as communication, language and literature, mathematics, science and technology, biology, or social sciences is desirable. - Postgraduate studies in education, social sciences, or related fields are preferred. - A minimum of 8 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in teaching in public or private educational institutions. - At least 5 years of experience in educational projects as an advisor, monitor, or technical assistance, including experience as a pedagogical specialist in centralized or decentralized educational instances. - Experience in at least 2 educational projects or consultancies related to community work, managing educational networks, and innovation in education. - Experience in projects related to sustainability, territorial development, or social impact education is desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in Education or a related field, with a preference for those who have specialized training in communication, language and literature, mathematics, or social sciences. Postgraduate education in relevant fields is highly desirable, as it demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development and expertise in educational methodologies and practices.
Experience: Candidates must have extensive experience, specifically over 8 years in their professional field, with a strong emphasis on educational roles. This includes at least 5 years of teaching experience in both public and private educational institutions, as well as significant involvement in educational projects, providing advisory services, and technical assistance. Experience in managing educational networks and working with diverse stakeholders in the education sector is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of instruction and communication in the educational context of Peru. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they relate to the communities served by the project.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is a consultant contract lasting 7 months, subject to budget availability and performance evaluation. The role is open to external candidates, and the consultant is expected to work on-site in Lima, with potential travel to the Moquegua region. The consultant must be willing to relocate to Moquegua or have residence in the area. The position does not include medical coverage or expectations for contract renewal.
