Job Overview: The Associate Director, Senior Risk Officer plays a crucial role in the Risk Management division of the EBRD, focusing on the independent analysis and appraisal of risks associated with the Bank's corporate project finance debt transactions, particularly in the Energy and Infrastructure sectors. This position requires a deep understanding of risk assessment methodologies and the ability to recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures and transaction structures. The Senior Risk Officer will advise bankers and the Bank’s Committees to ensure compliance with the Bank’s sound banking mandate, while also reviewing portfolio projects, assigning credit ratings, and communicating trends and lessons learned to management and peers. The role involves leading and coaching a team of associate risk officers, analysts, and junior bankers, ensuring that they are well-equipped to handle the complexities of credit risk management in a dynamic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Director, Senior Risk Officer is responsible for establishing an independent and unbiased view on projects proposed to the Operations Committee and Small Business Investment Committee (SBIC). Key responsibilities include analyzing the risks of each proposal, advising on risk mitigation measures, and ensuring compliance with relevant risk guidelines. The Senior Risk Officer will appraise the validity of key assumptions, deliver authoritative conclusions under tight deadlines, and take ownership of credit risk for their designated portfolio. They will also lead proactive monitoring of assigned portfolio counterparties, engage constructively with Banking staff, and participate in various executive Bank committees. Additionally, the role involves mentoring junior staff and contributing positively to initiatives within Risk Management and the broader Bank.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Associate Director, Senior Risk Officer position should possess relevant experience in the Energy sector, particularly with renewable energy projects, and a clear understanding of other Infrastructure sectors. They should have influencing skills to oversee transaction structuring and a proven track record in autonomous decision-making in high-risk environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, along with advanced Excel knowledge, are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate developing people management skills and have relevant banking and/or risk management experience.
Educational Background: A strong educational background is required for this position, with candidates expected to hold an advanced degree in finance, business, economics, or equivalent on-the-job training.
