Job Overview:
The Associate Director, Senior Risk Officer is tasked with independently analyzing and appraising risks associated with the EBRD’s portfolio of corporate project finance debt transactions, particularly in the Energy and Infrastructure sectors. This role involves identifying necessary due diligence, recommending risk mitigation measures, and advising on transaction structures, including security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, covenants, and pricing. The position requires the officer to review portfolio projects, assign credit ratings, and communicate trends and lessons learned to management and peers to inform strategic decision-making and stress-testing. Additionally, the Associate Director will lead and mentor junior staff within the Corporate and Project Finance Credit Risk Management Team, ensuring compliance with the Bank’s banking mandate and sound risk management practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Director will establish an independent view on projects proposed to the Operations Committee and make clear recommendations or approvals on each proposal. Key responsibilities include analyzing risks of each proposal, advising on risk mitigation measures, and ensuring compliance with risk guidelines and prudential limits set by the Bank. The officer will appraise the validity of key assumptions, deliver authoritative conclusions under tight deadlines, and take ownership of risk data. Regular monitoring of assigned portfolio counterparties and engaging with Banking staff to ensure effective front-line monitoring are also crucial. The role involves participating in executive Bank committees, leading sector portfolio reviews, and contributing to various initiatives within Risk Management. The Associate Director will also mentor junior staff and promote a strong credit culture within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess relevant experience in the Energy sector, particularly with renewable energy and battery storage projects. A clear understanding of other infrastructure sectors is essential. The role requires proven skills in structuring high-yield loans and financial instruments in both corporate and project finance contexts. The Associate Director should have a strong track record in autonomous decision-making in credit risk environments and the ability to deliver clear conclusions under pressure. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, along with advanced Excel knowledge, are mandatory. Candidates should also demonstrate developing people management skills for mentoring junior staff.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in finance, business, economics, or equivalent on-the-job training is required for this position. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in financial principles and risk management practices relevant to the banking and finance sectors.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in banking and/or risk management, particularly in high-risk environments. Candidates should have a proven track record of decision-making in credit risk and experience in overseeing transaction structuring within the Banking team.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong written and spoken communication skills. Additional languages may be considered an asset but are not specified as mandatory for this role.
