Job Overview: The Graphics Designer position is crucial for enhancing communication and visibility for the Ecosystem-based Adaptation for Resilient Watersheds and Communities in Malawi (EbAM) project. This role involves creating visually appealing and informative materials that effectively communicate the project's objectives and activities to various stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and international partners. The designer will be responsible for producing high-quality illustrations and graphics that align with the project's visual identity and branding guidelines. The incumbent will work closely with the Office of Communications and other relevant units to ensure that all materials meet FAO's standards and effectively convey the intended messages. The role requires a creative individual with a strong background in graphic design and illustration, who can translate complex concepts into engaging visual formats that resonate with the target audience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Reviewing training materials such as manuals, modules, and posters to develop a comprehensive workplan for illustrations.
Creating original illustrations and graphics that effectively communicate the project's themes and messages.
Analyzing texts and translating related concepts into visual representations that enhance understanding.
Utilizing colors, graphics, and effects to improve the visualization of concepts.
Combining hand-drawn and painted artworks with digital techniques to produce high-quality designs.
Performing multiple rounds of corrections based on feedback from the Office of Communications and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
Delivering final files in both high and low resolution for various dissemination channels, including print and web.
Maintaining liaison with the Office of Communications to ensure alignment with FAO's branding and messaging guidelines.
Adhering to FAO's communication policies and procedures throughout the design process.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a University Diploma from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in illustrations. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in illustrative work for training and educational materials, preferably within the United Nations or international organizations, is required. A working knowledge of English at level C is mandatory, and candidates must be nationals of Malawi or residents with a valid work permit. Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate strong competencies in results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a University Diploma in illustrations or a related field from an accredited institution. This qualification should be recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU) or UNESCO, ensuring that the candidate has received formal training in graphic design and illustration techniques.
