Job Overview:
The FI Equity Analyst position is a critical role within the Financial Institutions group at EBRD, focusing on equity and equity-linked investments in banks and financial institutions across Central Asia, the Caucasus, Türkiye, and Mongolia. The analyst will be involved in the entire investment cycle, from origination and due diligence to negotiation, execution, and monitoring of investments. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, as the analyst will assess investment opportunities, evaluate financial soundness, and contribute to portfolio management. The position is designed to develop progressively, allowing the analyst to take on more complex tasks and responsibilities as they gain experience and expertise in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The FI Equity Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Structuring and Execution: Collaborating with project teams on transactions, conducting comprehensive research and analysis of market information and financial performance data of target companies. Evaluating potential risks associated with proposed projects, preparing financial models, and conducting valuation assessments. Contributing to the preparation of term sheets and participating in negotiations and legal documentation reviews. Supporting transaction execution and maintaining communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation, and Reporting: Monitoring an assigned portfolio of investments, tracking progress, and implementing value creation plans. Drafting investment monitoring reports, identifying key issues, and recommending corrective actions. Maintaining relationships with counterparties at portfolio companies and ensuring timely collection of reports and market information. The role is designed to evolve, allowing the analyst to take on greater complexity and autonomy over time.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are strongly preferred. Strong quantitative and numerical skills are essential, along with proficiency in Excel and advanced financial modeling capabilities. Familiarity with financial sector analysis, regulatory capital, solvency, asset quality, and liquidity is required, while experience with financial market data platforms like Bloomberg, SNL, or Refinitiv is desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory, and fluency in Russian is strongly preferred. The ability to work effectively in a team, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work under pressure is crucial.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly desirable, as are professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA. These qualifications demonstrate a strong foundation in financial principles and practices, which are critical for the role of an FI Equity Analyst.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant financial industry experience, preferably gained from a major private equity, investment banking, or auditing/financial consulting firm. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in financial sector analysis and a strong understanding of the dynamics within emerging and frontier markets. Previous experience working or investing in the Bank’s countries of operations is considered a significant advantage, as it provides valuable context for the role.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Fluency in Russian is strongly preferred, as it enhances the analyst's ability to engage with stakeholders in the coverage region. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the target markets may also be beneficial.
