Job Overview: The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM aims to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in or whose studies have covered areas relevant to IOM's programmes and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The Programme Support Unit (PSU) provides administrative, technical, and operational support to IOM Nigeria’s programmes, assisting with programme planning, coordination, reporting, and monitoring. Interns will assist in daily programme support tasks, including documentation, reporting, and coordination, while gaining valuable experience in an international multicultural environment within the United Nations system. They will learn about IOM's work as an inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and will have access to online training courses available to all IOM staff.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for organizing and maintaining programme documents, files, and records. They will support the preparation of reports, presentations, and briefing notes, help track programme activities, timelines, and deliverables, and assist in monitoring and documenting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for ongoing projects. Additionally, interns will support the coordination of meetings, workshops, and programme events, liaise with internal and external stakeholders as required, and perform any other programme-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level) in International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field, or have graduated from such a programme within the last 12 months. Experience in programme support, administration, or development projects is desirable, and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, good organizational and analytical skills, and attention to detail are essential. An interest in migration, development, or corporate social responsibility is also important.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme in fields such as International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Business Administration, or related disciplines. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of migration and development issues that IOM addresses.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes academic projects, internships, or volunteer work in programme support, administration, or development projects. While prior experience is desirable, it is not mandatory, as the internship is designed to provide practical experience and learning opportunities for candidates who are early in their careers.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for all applicants, both oral and written. External applicants for positions in the Professional category are also required to have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN language, which may include Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, depending on their experience and location. However, those benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP) free of charge for the duration of the internship. However, interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses and must provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work. Any offer made to candidates is subject to funding confirmation, and appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, accreditation, residency or visa requirements, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security clearances.
