Job Overview:
The Project Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the Action for Climate and Environment (ACE) Unit at UNDP India, specifically within the Circular Economy & Chemicals Waste Management (CE & CWM) pillar. This position involves assisting in the planning and execution of various projects aimed at addressing environmental and public health challenges related to waste management and chemical substances. The Project Associate will work closely with the Project Specialist to ensure that project activities align with approved work plans and donor agreements. The role requires maintaining comprehensive project trackers, coordinating meetings, and facilitating communication among project teams and stakeholders. The Project Associate will also be responsible for compiling progress updates and managing project documentation, ensuring that all outputs are evidence-based and results-oriented. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to India's transition towards sustainable development and environmental governance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Project Specialist in planning and managing the CE & CWM pillar projects, ensuring adherence to work plans and reporting timelines.
  • Maintain integrated trackers for project milestones, financial delivery, and key actions, following up with teams to ensure timely completion.
  • Coordinate routine program reviews and project meetings, preparing agendas and meeting notes, and ensuring action points are addressed.
  • Monitor implementation progress across project components, identifying and flagging delays or risks to the Project Specialist.
  • Maintain an active issues and risks log, supporting the escalation of unresolved issues and tracking their resolution.
  • Liaise with government counterparts, private sector partners, and civil society organizations for implementation follow-ups and data requests.
  • Compile concise progress updates and reporting packs for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring outputs are results-oriented.
  • Manage program documentation, maintaining a well-organized repository of project files and correspondence.
  • Support the preparation of concept notes, project briefs, and donor proposals by compiling relevant information and data. 1
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Project Specialist or Senior Management to support the CE & CWM pillar's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and environmental governance, with a keen understanding of the challenges related to waste management and chemical substances. Familiarity with UNDP's operational policies and procedures is an advantage. The candidate should also exhibit adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment, with a strong sense of accountability and professionalism.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, public policy, project management, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas will be considered an asset. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in sustainable development principles and practices, particularly in relation to waste management and environmental governance.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in project management, preferably within the context of environmental sustainability or development projects. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international organizations is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of successfully managing project activities, coordinating with diverse stakeholders, and delivering results in a timely manner.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Hindi or other regional languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in New Delhi, India. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a volunteer living allowance of INR 70,158.41, an entry lump sum of USD 350, and relocation costs of $175 if the duty station is outside commuting distance. Additionally, there is an exit allowance of USD 120 for each month served upon successful completion of the assignment. Comprehensive health and life insurance coverage is provided for the UN Volunteer and up to three eligible dependents. Annual leave is accrued at a rate of 2.5 days per month.
