Job Overview: The Field Manager (FM) position is crucial for providing operational leadership and coordination of NRC's activities at the field sub-office level. The FM is tasked with ensuring the efficient, secure, and accountable management of programs and support functions within the designated field office. This role encompasses overseeing the operations of the field office, which includes staff management, program coordination, and external engagement. The FM is expected to address specific operational needs that arise from the complexity of the response, the remoteness of the location, and the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security environment. The position operates under the overall management of the North Area Office and is line-managed by the Area Manager, ensuring that NRC's interventions are effectively implemented in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in South Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities: The FM will have a range of generic responsibilities, including line management of directly reporting staff, overseeing performance management processes, and ensuring that staff achieve their goals aligned with the country strategy. The FM is responsible for workforce planning, recruitment, staff induction, and development, ensuring the duty of care for all staff members. The FM will also provide field-specific analysis and inputs on Area Office strategies, maintain effective communication and collaboration with external stakeholders, and represent NRC in engagements at the field level. Specific responsibilities include managing field staff to ensure timely and quality program implementation, overseeing day-to-day operations, monitoring progress against targets, conducting regular site visits, preparing and submitting field reports, and ensuring compliance with organizational standards and donor requirements. The FM will also be responsible for security management in the field office and ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Field Manager position should possess generic professional competencies, including 2 to 3 years of experience in a managerial role within humanitarian or recovery contexts, experience in complex and volatile humanitarian settings, and a strong understanding of support functions such as finance, logistics, and human resources. Additionally, candidates should have professional-level proficiency in English, both written and verbal, and demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with local authorities and stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position typically includes a relevant degree in fields such as humanitarian studies, international relations, social sciences, or a related discipline. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in humanitarian response or management may be preferred, as these qualifications can enhance the candidate's ability to navigate the complexities of the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a managerial role within humanitarian or recovery contexts. This experience should include working in complex and volatile environments, demonstrating the ability to coordinate and represent organizations effectively in challenging situations. Familiarity with the South Sudan context and previous experience in inter-agency coordination will be advantageous.
