Job Overview:
The Protection from Violence (PfV) Officer position is crucial for the day-to-day implementation of the Protection from Violence project portfolio in the Jonglei Area of South Sudan. This role involves contributing to the successful execution of PfV programs, which include Individual Response Services, Civilian-Self Protection, and Thought Leadership and Influence. The PfV Officer will be responsible for service delivery, monitoring project activities, ensuring compliance with technical standards, and maintaining communication with communities. The position requires approximately 80% travel to various locations, including Uror, Akobo, and Duk, to deliver mobile services. The PfV Officer will work closely with the PfV Coordinator and other team members to analyze protection risk trends and inform the strategic direction of the PfV programming in Jonglei.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The PfV Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including: implementing civilian self-protection programming, delivering individual response services, and conducting protection monitoring, analysis, and advocacy activities. They will ensure adherence to NRC's Code of Conduct and humanitarian principles, collaborate with PfV Officers and Assistants in service provision, and produce regular reports for internal and donor submissions. The officer will assess and document ideas for technical improvement, oversee the achievement of activity targets, and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including partner agencies and community leaders. Additionally, they will prepare and develop status reports as required by management and ensure proper filing of documents.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a range of qualifications, including experience working as a Project Officer in a humanitarian or recovery context, particularly in complex and volatile environments. Documented results related to the position's responsibilities are essential, along with some knowledge of English. Specific skills and knowledge required include 1-3 years of experience with Protection activities and programming, self-motivation, strong organizational and communication skills, and experience in community engagement processes. Understanding the rights and protection issues of displacement-affected populations is crucial, as is familiarity with tools like Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position typically includes a degree in social sciences, humanitarian studies, or a related field. Candidates with relevant certifications or training in protection, humanitarian response, or project management will be preferred. A strong understanding of the humanitarian context in South Sudan and the specific challenges faced by displaced populations is also beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in protection activities and programming, particularly in humanitarian contexts. Experience working in North Areas of South Sudan or similar environments is advantageous, as is a background in conducting community engagement processes and participatory assessments. The ability to navigate complex and volatile situations while maintaining a focus on the needs of affected populations is essential.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Jonglei area would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate better communication and engagement with the communities served by the PfV programs.
