Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will provide technical and programmatic support to Central Asian countries regarding demographic shifts and their implications for sustainable development. This role involves generating and analyzing data to inform country offices about demographic changes and their social, economic, and environmental impacts. The volunteer will work closely with country representatives and directors to empower local offices to lead initiatives aligned with UNFPA's strategic goals. The position emphasizes collaboration with UN agencies and development partners to create evidence-based policies and strategies that address demographic challenges and promote resilience in the region.
Generate and analyze data using advanced tools and methodologies to inform country offices.
Empower country offices to lead initiatives aligned with UNFPA's Strategic Plan and the 2030 Agenda.
Support the formulation of rights-based policies and multi-sectoral strategies that consider demographic shifts.
Foster collaborations with UN agencies and development partners for joint analytical work and development frameworks.
Guide thought leadership within technical cooperation with stakeholders, including academia and civil society.
Ensure that technical knowledge and products are updated and utilized for effective collaborations and advocacy.
Contribute to South-South and Triangular Cooperation across countries.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a commitment to the mission of UNFPA. They should demonstrate integrity, accountability, and the ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams. The candidate should have a strong interest in development work, particularly in demographic resilience and sustainable development. Excellent communication skills are essential for engaging with various stakeholders and partners.
Educational Background: A degree in social sciences, public policy, demography, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in demographic studies, public health, or international development are highly desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in demographic analysis, policy formulation, or program implementation in a development context. Experience working with international organizations or in a UN environment is an advantage. Familiarity with demographic resilience and sustainable development frameworks is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Russian or Kazakh is an asset. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may enhance the candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: This is a UN Volunteer position based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The role may involve travel within the region and requires a commitment to the principles of the United Nations.
