Job Overview:
The Human Rights Officer (Analyst/Reporting Officer) will play a crucial role in the Fact Finding Mission by reviewing and analyzing information related to human rights violations. The incumbent will work closely with the Coordinator of the Fact Finding Mission and the Chief of Investigations Support Section. The position requires a strong understanding of human rights law and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable reports. The officer will be responsible for ensuring that investigations are thorough and that gender perspectives are integrated into all aspects of the work. This includes preparing briefings, summaries, and analytical documents, as well as coordinating the drafting of reports that reflect the findings of the mission. The role demands a high level of professionalism and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve the mission's objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Human Rights Officer will have a range of responsibilities, including: reviewing and analyzing information collected during investigations; advising the Fact Finding Mission staff on addressing gaps and following leads; coordinating with the Investigations Team Leader and Legal Adviser to ensure that information collected meets legal standards; integrating gender perspectives into the investigation and report drafting process; preparing briefings and analytical documents; coordinating the drafting of the Fact Finding Mission's reports; ensuring proper documentation of information collected; assisting in drawing analytical conclusions; proposing report structures and visualizations; and developing actionable recommendations. The officer may also be required to perform other duties as necessary to support the mission's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of human rights-related matters, international human rights law, international criminal law, and international humanitarian law. Proven ability to analyze and report on complex human rights investigations is essential. The officer should have a deep understanding of the gender dimensions in human rights work, particularly regarding sexual violence. The ability to conduct data collection using various methods and to synthesize information is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, efficiency, and a commitment to gender equality in their work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, or a related discipline is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of human rights law and the international legal framework.

Experience:
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible work experience in human rights, international humanitarian law, or international criminal law is required. Additionally, at least two years of experience in analyzing and drafting public human rights reports is necessary. Relevant working experience in or on the region is considered desirable, as it provides context and understanding of the specific human rights challenges faced.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Arabic is desirable, as it enhances communication and understanding within the context of the mission. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate broader communication within the organization.
