Job Overview: The Protection Analysis Officer plays a crucial role within DRC’s Protection Programme, which is dedicated to conducting systematic protection analysis to identify risks and trends affecting vulnerable populations displaced by conflict or disaster. This position is focused on data analysis and the development of informational products, such as reports, that inform humanitarian planning and programming. The officer will also be responsible for reviewing research tools, providing technical support to partners involved in monitoring efforts, and ensuring the quality of information collected. The role requires a strong understanding of protection issues and the ability to translate data into actionable insights that can guide programmatic decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Analysis Officer will lead the development, updating, and implementation of data collection tools and methodologies, working under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Key responsibilities include analyzing data from protection monitoring efforts, drafting narrative research reports using tools such as KoboToolbox and qualitative analysis software like MAXQDA, and responding to ad hoc requests for information or analysis based on DRC's protection monitoring data. The officer will also be tasked with creating capacity-building plans and conducting training sessions for enumerators and partners to ensure the quality of information collected. Additionally, the officer will produce reports that highlight key issues and trends, collaborate with the Economic Recovery sector to ensure integrated information collection, support donor reporting, and assist in the development of new program concepts. Other tasks may be assigned by the Protection Coordinator or Head of Programme as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 years of practical experience in research or protection monitoring, preferably within an INGO in a humanitarian context. Proven experience in developing various types of reports related to protection themes is essential. Applicants should have excellent knowledge of qualitative research methodologies and experience in developing and rolling out data collection tools. Familiarity with the protection analysis framework and international legal frameworks is required, along with the ability to interpret and synthesize information effectively. Proficiency in MS Office, KoboToolbox, qualitative analysis software (e.g., MAXQDA), and PowerBI is necessary, while knowledge of quantitative analysis software such as R is desirable. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment are also important.
Educational Background: A university degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Human Rights, Law, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary to understand the complexities of protection issues and the legal frameworks that govern them.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in research or protection monitoring, ideally gained while working for international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) in humanitarian settings. This experience should include a strong focus on developing reports and utilizing various research methodologies.
Languages: Fluency in English and Turkish is mandatory for this role. Additionally, proficiency in Arabic is considered a valuable asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations and stakeholders.
