Job Posting Organization:
UNICEF Ethiopia is part of the global UNICEF organization, which was established in 1946 with the mission to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs, and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. The Ethiopia country program for 2020-2025 is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and aims to strengthen national systems for data collection and analysis to promote equity among children. UNICEF operates in over 190 countries and territories, employing thousands of staff members dedicated to improving the lives of children and families worldwide.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is designed to support UNICEF's Education section in its resource mobilization and fundraising efforts. This role is crucial in advancing the implementation of the fundraising strategy for priority education programs aimed at scaling up UNICEF's impact. The volunteer will engage in analytical and preparatory work that enhances UNICEF's engagement with potential partners and donors, particularly in a rapidly changing funding landscape. The responsibilities include conducting background research, donor mapping, and preparing concept notes and proposals that strategically position UNICEF’s education program for effective fundraising and partnership development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will undertake several key duties under the supervision of a designated supervisor. These include: conducting structured donor mapping to identify and research 12-24 potential donors relevant to UNICEF’s education priorities, which may include foundations, bilateral donors, private companies, and diaspora organizations; compiling detailed donor profiles that summarize their funding priorities, geographic focus areas, past funding patterns, and how they align with UNICEF’s mission; supporting the development and refinement of fundraising pitch materials, such as short concept notes and briefing summaries for potential donors; organizing and systematizing donor-related information to facilitate internal coordination and follow-up; providing ad hoc analytical or desk-based support related to resource mobilization as needed; and participating in meetings with potential donor partners as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this Online Volunteer position should possess strong analytical skills and a good understanding of fundraising strategies. They should be able to conduct thorough research and synthesize information effectively. Familiarity with UNICEF’s mission and objectives, particularly in the context of education, is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in using digital tools for research and data management is also important.

Educational Background:
A background in international development, education, public policy, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates should ideally be pursuing or have completed a degree in one of these areas, as this will provide the necessary context and understanding of the work involved in resource mobilization and fundraising for educational programs.

Experience:
While specific prior experience in fundraising or resource mobilization is not mandatory, any relevant experience in research, donor engagement, or project management will be considered an asset. The role is suitable for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of international development and fundraising, particularly within the context of education.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the Ethiopian context, would be considered a valuable asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is an online volunteer position, which allows for flexibility in working hours. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but it is expected to align with the ongoing fundraising strategy implementation efforts. The role is suitable for individuals seeking to contribute to UNICEF's mission while gaining valuable experience in the field of fundraising and resource mobilization.
