Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in managing information related to UNICEF's humanitarian response in Honduras, which is currently facing a complex humanitarian situation characterized by violence, human mobility, and recurrent climatic events. These factors disproportionately affect children and adolescents, creating multisectoral needs in health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), education, and protection. The humanitarian action plan estimates that approximately 1.4 million people require assistance, with the most severe needs concentrated in 33 prioritized municipalities. The volunteer will be responsible for strengthening information management capacity to support planning, monitoring, and analysis of humanitarian needs, service coverage, and programmatic outcomes. This role is essential for improving evidence-based decision-making, inter-agency coordination, and accountability to affected populations. The assignment is for six months and aims to enhance humanitarian information management systems, contributing to a more efficient and timely response aligned with the humanitarian action plan's priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will be responsible for the following tasks: responding to the information management needs of the Country Office (CO) in the context of its humanitarian response; adapting existing information approaches to collect, process, analyze, and report information on activities and resources; identifying information gaps; collaborating closely with various sectors and stakeholders to address urgent information needs; maintaining existing information management approaches; ensuring timely delivery and review of monthly progress reports from implementing partners; supporting the development and analysis of humanitarian performance monitoring tools; collecting and analyzing data on key humanitarian performance indicators; establishing and maintaining databases of information from various sources; generating stratified beneficiary samples for monitoring quality of assistance; working with stakeholders to identify and propose solutions for information gaps; utilizing GIS for mapping and data management; managing information flows and dissemination; supporting the preparation of situation reports and other reports; coordinating monitoring visits and verifying reports from implementing partners; preparing accessible knowledge products; contributing to accountability exercises; documenting practices and lessons learned; and managing information management platforms required by OCHA.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They should demonstrate self-awareness and ethical awareness, with a focus on achieving impactful results. The ideal candidate will be innovative and adaptable to change, capable of managing ambiguity and complexity. Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain alliances are essential. Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in information management, social sciences, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in data analysis, GIS, or humanitarian response would be advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant experience in information management, data analysis, or a related field is required. Experience working in humanitarian contexts, particularly in data collection and analysis, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF's operations and humanitarian response mechanisms is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and proficiency in English is desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the local context would be an asset.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the basic entitlements include a monthly allowance for basic needs, a pre-assignment allowance, and an end-of-assignment allowance, contingent upon fulfilling the necessary conditions. Volunteers will receive medical insurance, life insurance, and disability coverage, as well as medical insurance for eligible dependents. Volunteers will also accrue 2.5 days of vacation per month and have access to a learning platform.
