Job Overview: The Senior Logistics Associate position is a critical role within the Logistics Cluster (LC) at WFP, based in Bor, South Sudan. The incumbent will provide specialized support and manage a team responsible for logistics activities that facilitate the delivery of humanitarian relief items, both food and non-food. This role involves direct reporting to the Logistics Officer and acting as a deputy in their absence. The Senior Logistics Associate will coordinate logistics operations, particularly focusing on river transportation, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of supplies to various organizations. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage complex operational issues while maintaining compliance with WFP's supply chain processes. The successful candidate will also engage with various stakeholders, including vendors and partners, to ensure effective logistics operations and support capacity building within the team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide specialized support to the Logistics Cluster and oversee logistics operations for river transportation, ensuring effective delivery of humanitarian relief items.
Coordinate logistics requests and asset allocation to ensure timely deliveries to organizations, engaging with partners for clarification and organizing Pro-forma invoices post-reconciliation.
Develop and manage monthly departure schedules for the Bor LC river operation.
Collaborate with the logistics contracting unit to monitor vendor performance and ensure authorized routes for food and non-food items.
Conduct market assessments to provide information on available vendors and support the vendor selection process.
Address complex operational issues and provide recommendations within the supply chain framework.
Monitor Logistics Funds management to ensure compliance with corporate standards for on-demand services.
Oversee inventory management and ensure accurate physical reconciliations of items for pro-forma invoice generation.
Manage documentation processing for logistics operations and take necessary actions for compliance. 1
Build and maintain relationships with external partners to support the Logistics Cluster. 1
Assist the Logistics Officer in team management, providing guidance and training to enhance staff capacity. 1
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in logistics operations, with at least four years in managing multi-modal transport logistics, preferably within an international organization. Experience in coordinating with diverse stakeholders, including UN agencies and vendors, is essential. Supervisory experience is required, including providing guidance and training to staff. Candidates should demonstrate a service-oriented mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage inventory according to WFP procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is necessary, along with a willingness to work in challenging environments.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include the completion of secondary school education and a post-secondary certificate in a related field. A university degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in logistics, with a focus on managing transport logistics operations. Candidates should have experience in stakeholder coordination and staff supervision, demonstrating the ability to lead teams effectively and provide training and support.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Proficiency in spoken Arabic is considered an advantage, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and partners.
