Job Overview:
The National Consultant will play a crucial role in documenting and disseminating the impact of the Youth Participation Initiative (YPI) project in Liberia. This position involves creating high-quality multimedia content that captures the transformative stories of youth engagement and civic participation. The consultant will work closely with youth groups and community networks to ensure that the storytelling process is participatory and inclusive. The overarching goal is to enhance youth engagement in decision-making processes and promote awareness of the National Youth Policy through engaging digital formats. The consultant will be responsible for developing a comprehensive strategy for documenting impact stories, producing multimedia content, and creating advocacy materials that resonate with young audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Consultant will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conducting a desk review of project documents and developing a storytelling strategy that identifies key themes and target audiences.
  • Documenting impact stories through field visits, interviews, and focus group discussions, ensuring that the narratives highlight young women's leadership and digital civic participation.
  • Producing multimedia content, including short video clips and a documentary that captures the project's overall success.
  • Collaborating with youth groups to develop youth-friendly advocacy materials such as social media toolkits, infographics, and flyers.
  • Engaging with youth-led organizations to co-create content and promote meaningful participation in storytelling.
  • Providing regular progress updates and submitting a final consultancy report summarizing activities, content produced, and lessons learned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Communications, Media Studies, Development Studies, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. The consultant should have a minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in multimedia production and storytelling, particularly with youth-led and women-led organizations. Proven experience in producing documentaries and digital advocacy content is essential, along with a strong understanding of gender equality and civic participation. Familiarity with graphic design and social media strategies is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Media Studies, Development Studies, Public Policy, or Social Sciences is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and effective communication strategies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in multimedia production, storytelling, and development communications. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with youth-led and women-led civil society organizations and community-based organizations. Experience in producing documentaries, short films, and digital advocacy content is essential, as is a strong understanding of gender equality, peacebuilding, and civic participation.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Liberia is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.

  • Local travel within Liberia may be required, and UN Women will cover the costs of approved travel. The consultant's performance will be evaluated based on timeliness, responsibility, initiative, communication, accuracy, and quality of deliverables. Payments will be made based on the completion of deliverables as outlined in the Terms of Reference.
