Job Overview:

This part-time position is designed to ensure that the Alliance delivers high-quality, evidence-driven, and inclusive results for children impacted by humanitarian crises. The Deputy Director is responsible for strengthening governance, coherence, technical quality, and partnerships across the Alliance while promoting multisectoral collaboration and alignment with IRC’s global child protection objectives. The role is pivotal in ensuring that the Alliance's strategies and work plans are relevant, results-oriented, and cost-effective, with clear performance measurement. The position is remote and open to candidates who are nationals or permanent residents of Kenya or the UK, with a potential for full-time engagement depending on funding approval.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership and Governance: Develop, implement, and periodically review the Alliance Strategy and workplans, ensuring they are relevant and results-oriented. Lead designated workstreams aligned with strategic priorities and support governance processes, including the preparation and follow-up of decisions from the Executive Committee and Steering Committee.
  • Management, Coordination, and Convening: Ensure coherence across Working Groups, Task Forces, and Initiatives, facilitating effective information flow and collaboration among Alliance members. Lead the planning and delivery of the Annual Meeting for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action.
  • Technical Leadership and Quality Assurance: Provide technical oversight to selected Working Groups and ensure the inclusion of national and local member perspectives.
  • Partnerships, Advocacy, and External Engagement: Build and sustain strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, contributing to global advocacy for child protection.
  • Research, Learning, and Multisectoral Engagement: Contribute to research and learning agendas, promoting the application of Alliance guidance across partners.
  • Resource Mobilization and Financial Coordination: Identify joint fundraising opportunities and engage with partners on financial coordination.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Deputy Director position should possess substantial experience in leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives at a global level. A minimum of 10 years of professional experience is required, including at least 5 years in a senior management or deputy leadership role within an international organization, alliance, coalition, or network. The candidate should have demonstrated experience in deputizing for an Executive Director or equivalent, with a proven ability to lead and foster collaboration within diverse teams. Strong skills in building and managing partnerships, engaging with governance bodies, and influencing policy are essential. The candidate must also demonstrate a clear commitment to the Alliance’s mission and values, including equity, inclusion, and partnership.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in social sciences, Child Rights, Development Studies, Social Work, or a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in child protection and humanitarian action.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management or deputy leadership role. Experience in international organizations, alliances, or networks is preferred, along with a strong track record in leading initiatives and managing complex partnerships. The ability to navigate politically sensitive environments and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders is crucial.

Languages:
Excellent spoken and written English is mandatory, and proficiency in an additional IRC language such as Arabic, French, or Spanish is desired. This linguistic capability is important for effective communication and collaboration within the international context of the role.
