Job Overview:
The Senior Officer, Principal Giving East will play a crucial role within the External Relations (ER) department, which encompasses private fundraising, communications, and advocacy. This position is specifically focused on enhancing private individual support for the IRC by engaging with high-net-worth individuals in the Eastern United States. The Senior Officer will be responsible for managing a portfolio of Principal Giving donors and prospects, aiming to secure significant multi-year commitments. This role requires a dynamic front-line fundraiser who is adept at relationship management throughout the donor life cycle, from qualification to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of six and seven-figure gifts. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, skilled in building relationships, and capable of developing innovative prospecting strategies. Collaboration with the Associate Director and other team members is essential to handle high-level partnerships and to ensure effective donor engagement communications and stewardship reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of 30-50 high-net-worth individuals by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships to enhance their engagement with the IRC.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director to design and implement creative long-term engagement strategies that deepen donor commitment and increase giving.
  • Travel within the Eastern U.S. region to meet with donors and prospects, conducting qualifications and relationship-building activities.
  • Execute front-line fundraising activities that result in raised funds, both personally and in collaboration with IRC leaders and program staff.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the IRC to align donor priorities with organizational goals, thereby increasing income and fostering multifaceted engagement with the organization.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned to support the overall mission of the IRC.

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience, with demonstrated expertise in private sector or major gifts fundraising, or sales, including direct solicitation of donors or clients.
  • Proven track record of successfully closing multiple six and seven-figure gifts from a diverse portfolio, including the ability to qualify prospects and upgrade existing donors or clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with donors, Board Members, and staff at all levels.
  • Capability to develop creative and nuanced donor strategies, often in partnership with program staff.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a focus on donor priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate diplomatically across teams and garner support for initiatives.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting financial data, as well as navigating CRM systems and databases.
  • A commitment to fundraising for international development, humanitarian efforts, human rights, gender and racial equality, social justice, and support for US immigrant communities.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree is typically required for this position, with a preference for candidates who have pursued further education or specialized training in fundraising, nonprofit management, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas may be advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to professional development in the sector.

Experience:
Candidates should possess at least 5 years of relevant experience in fundraising, particularly in major gifts or private sector fundraising. Experience in direct solicitation and relationship management with high-net-worth individuals is essential. A successful history of closing significant gifts and managing a diverse portfolio of donors is critical for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with donors and stakeholders is crucial. Additional language skills may be considered a plus, particularly if they align with the IRC's global operations and donor base.

Additional Notes:
This position requires part-time remote work flexibility. The compensation for this role ranges from $93,000 to $110,000, depending on various factors such as the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations.
