Job Overview:
The consultant will play a pivotal role in supporting the preparation of Libya's national food systems transformation pathway. This position involves assessing the current state of food systems in Libya, mapping key stakeholders, and facilitating structured consultations to gather input from various sectors. The consultant will work closely with the National Food Systems Focal Point in the Government of Libya and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to ensure that national priorities are articulated and integrated into regional processes. The consultant's work will contribute to the broader goal of transforming food systems in the Arab region, which has been a focus since the UN Food Systems Summit in 202
  • The consultant will be responsible for delivering a series of reports and presentations that summarize findings and recommendations based on stakeholder consultations and data analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties include preparing a background note on Libya's food systems, which will involve drafting a list of relevant indicators and climate change parameters. They will solicit feedback on this draft and secure agreement on the indicators to inform the development of national food systems pathways. Additionally, the consultant will prepare and disseminate an online survey to identify key challenges and priorities in Libya's food systems, analyze the results, and present findings at the national dialogue. The consultant will also identify national food system stakeholder institutions, contribute to organizing the national food systems dialogue, and draft the national food systems dialogue report. Finally, the consultant will draft and finalize the preliminary national food systems pathway based on consultations and feedback.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or higher in fields related to food security, food systems, economics, public policy, agriculture, climate change, sustainable development, or a related area. Additionally, candidates must have at least 10 years of relevant experience in food systems, climate change, and/or sustainable development planning. Strong analytical and writing skills are essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates must submit a copy of their educational degree as part of their application, as incomplete applications will not be considered.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or higher in food security, food systems, economics, public policy, agriculture, climate change, sustainable development, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of food systems and their interconnections with climate change and sustainable development.

Experience:
Candidates are required to have a minimum of 10 years of experience related to food systems, climate change, and/or sustainable development planning. This level of experience is necessary to ensure that the consultant can effectively contribute to the development of the national food systems transformation pathway and engage with various stakeholders in the process.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations and ESCWA. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
