The UN Resident Coordinator Office (UN RCO) in Malaysia operates under the leadership of an independent UN Resident Coordinator and is responsible for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam. The office is located in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and plays a crucial role in the UN's global reform initiatives launched in 2019 to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the UN Development System.

Job Overview:
The Driver position is essential for the smooth operation of the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Kuala Lumpur. The primary function of this role is to provide safe and reliable transportation for the UN Resident Coordinator and authorized personnel. The Driver is expected to maintain confidentiality and adhere to all security and safety protocols while performing driving duties. Flexibility in working hours, including after-hours and weekends, is required as operational needs dictate. The Driver will also be responsible for making deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and various government ministries, embassies, and development partners. Additionally, the role includes minor purchases, customs clearance, and facilitating immigration processes for official personnel at the airport. The Driver will also assist in data collection and analysis, contributing to the preparation of reports and information materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Safely drive vehicles for the transport of the UN Resident Coordinator and authorized UN personnel.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all security, safety, and organizational protocols.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in working hours and availability, including after-hours and weekends.
  • Make regular deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and other institutions.
  • Make minor purchases and collect urgent items from local suppliers as requested.
  • Facilitate customs clearance for goods and make or collect payments as necessary.
  • Meet official personnel at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities.
  • Interact effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires; perform minor repairs and arrange for major repairs. 1
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance records. 1
  • Follow organizational rules in case of accidents. 1
  • Assist with data collection and analysis for reports and presentations. 1
  • Update information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • Completion of a High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid National Driver License is mandatory.
  • A defensive driving certificate is desirable.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with local roads and conditions, is essential.
  • Professionalism, accountability, and client orientation are key competencies expected from the candidate.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed a High School diploma or equivalent. This educational background is essential for understanding the responsibilities and protocols associated with the role of a Driver in the UN environment.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of continuous driving experience with a safe driving record is required. Candidates should have experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience working with senior diplomatic officials is desirable, as is prior work experience with the United Nations or similar international organizations.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English is required, with a minimum level of II according to the UN Language Framework. Additionally, proficiency in either Malay or Bahasa is required, also at a minimum level of II. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
This is a Fixed Term position, initially for one year, with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and budgetary approval. The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work in Malaysia.
