Job Overview:
The Protection Case Management Associate is a crucial role within the UNHCR, primarily located at the Multi-Country Office, Branch Office, or Field Office. This position is part of the Protection Section and may involve working under various units such as Registration, Refugee Status Determination (RSD), or Resettlement. The associate is responsible for supporting activities related to registration, RSD, and resettlement, ensuring the efficient implementation of operational policies and compliance with the comprehensive protection and solutions strategy. The incumbent will conduct interviews, draft documents, and provide support to the registration process, while also mentoring new caseworkers as needed. This role requires a strong commitment to UNHCR's core values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity, as well as the ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Case Management Associate include assisting in the implementation of registration strategies for populations of concern, supervising registration team activities, conducting interviews and assessments in line with individual case-processing policies, providing counseling to asylum seekers and refugees, and supporting the timely identification and referral of individuals with specific protection needs. The associate will also assist in developing protection strategies, reviewing special cases, monitoring individual case processing trends, maintaining accurate records and statistics, and ensuring that the proGres database is updated. Additional responsibilities include identifying and managing risks, collaborating with other units for assistance delivery, and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or two years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Essential qualifications include the ability to conduct interviews, analyze and report on beneficiary situations, and possess strong research and analytical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. Desirable qualifications include experience with registration, resettlement, and RSD procedures, as well as previous work in International Refugee Law and Human Rights Law, and experience in counseling vulnerable individuals.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma for candidates with three years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or higher for those with two years of relevant experience. While specific fields of education are not mandated, certificates or licenses in Law, International Law, Political Sciences, International Relations, or Social Sciences are considered essential.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least three years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or two years with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in conducting interviews, analyzing situations, and working with vulnerable populations is essential. Familiarity with UNHCR's procedures and principles related to registration, resettlement, and RSD is highly desirable, as is experience in counseling refugees and asylum seekers.

Languages:
For this position, knowledge of English is mandatory, and proficiency in the UN working language of the duty station is required if it is not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language is necessary, and knowledge of the local language is advantageous.
