Interns will play a crucial role in enhancing the team's digital presence and public outreach through various forms of content creation, including social media posts, multimedia materials, and visual storytelling. The position requires a proactive approach to developing engaging content that resonates with diverse audiences, thereby amplifying the visibility of the Hub's knowledge products and strategic initiatives. Interns will work closely with team members to support communications efforts, manage social media platforms, and assist in video production, all aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable energy issues and UNDP's work in this area.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's key responsibilities will include:
Social Media and Digital Content Management: Developing engaging content for platforms such as LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and Instagram, including graphics, short videos, animations, and infographics. Supporting the implementation of social media campaigns linked to international events and sustainable energy advocacy. Assisting with content scheduling, performance tracking, and analytics to optimize engagement.
Communications Support: Drafting clear and engaging digital communications content, including social media copy, web text, and outreach materials. Developing communication materials such as fact sheets and toolkits for external audiences. Supporting internal and external communication needs through audience-appropriate written content.
Video Content Production and Editing: Assisting in the production and editing of short-form videos, interviews, and campaign materials. Preparing video assets using tools like Premiere Pro and Canva. Developing storyboards and visual edits for digital storytelling content.
Multimedia and Visual Content Development: Creating visual assets such as social media graphics and infographics. Adapting visual content for reports and presentations. Maintaining visual consistency across the team's digital outputs in line with UNDP branding.
Website and Digital Asset Support: Updating the team's website with news and publications. Organizing and maintaining the digital asset library, including photo and video files, with clear tagging systems. Preparing visual and layout assets for selected knowledge products and online materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in these disciplines.
Have recently graduated with a university degree in the specified fields and must start the internship within one year of graduation.
Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Additionally, candidates should possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and demonstrate a commitment to UNDP's values and ethical standards.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. Candidates should ideally have a strong academic foundation that supports their ability to create engaging multimedia content and communicate effectively across various platforms.
Experience: Candidates should have experience creating multimedia content for social media and marketing campaigns, showcasing their ability to translate complex information into engaging visuals. Hands-on experience in graphic design, branding, and motion graphics is essential, along with a portfolio that demonstrates past work. Familiarity with social media content creation and management, as well as website design and layout improvement, is highly desirable. An understanding of sustainable development and climate change communications will be considered an advantage.
Languages: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required for this position. Fluency in other official languages of the UN, such as French or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Interns will report to the Head of Decarbonization and Sustainable Energy, Healthy Planet. For remote internships, candidates must provide their own equipment and internet access. A stipend will be provided to cover basic expenses for in-person or remote internships, with specific arrangements for part-time internships. Interns will accrue sick and annual leave, and are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance during their internship. UNDP has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, and all selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
