Job Overview:
The Critical Minerals Expert position is designed to provide specialized knowledge and expertise in the procurement process related to critical minerals. The expert will be responsible for analyzing and advising on the procurement strategies that align with UNDP's goals and objectives in South Africa. This role requires a deep understanding of the critical minerals sector, including market trends, supply chain dynamics, and regulatory frameworks. The expert will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that procurement processes are efficient, transparent, and compliant with UNDP's standards. The assignment is expected to last for a period of six months, during which the expert will contribute to the development of procurement strategies that support sustainable development initiatives in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Critical Minerals Expert will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting market research and analysis on critical minerals; developing procurement strategies that align with UNDP's objectives; advising on best practices in procurement processes; collaborating with stakeholders to identify needs and requirements; ensuring compliance with UNDP procurement policies and procedures; preparing reports and documentation related to procurement activities; providing training and capacity building for local procurement teams; and participating in meetings and discussions with relevant parties to promote effective procurement practices.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field. A proven track record of working in the critical minerals sector is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with UNDP's procurement policies and procedures is highly desirable. Candidates should also have experience in project management and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in procurement, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is required. A master's degree or equivalent qualification is preferred. Relevant certifications in procurement or supply chain management will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in procurement or supply chain management, with a focus on critical minerals or related sectors. Experience working with international organizations or in a development context is highly desirable. Proven experience in managing procurement processes and contracts is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the South African context, would be considered an advantage.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role for a duration of six months. The expert will be expected to work full-time during this period. The position is based in South Africa, and candidates should be prepared to engage with local stakeholders and partners. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and additional benefits may be provided as per UNDP policies.
