Job Overview: The Financial Investigator position is crucial for the IIMM's efforts to advance investigations into serious crimes committed in Myanmar. The incumbent will be responsible for organizing evidence reviews, analyzing financial information, and developing case files that support ongoing investigations. This role requires a strong analytical mindset and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining confidentiality. The Financial Investigator will utilize analytical software to identify financial assets related to persons and entities of interest, thereby contributing to the evidentiary basis for potential prosecutions. Duties and Responsibilities: The Financial Investigator will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
Organizing evidence reviews of collected witness and documentary material, tagging relevant information, and collating material into case files to advance investigations.
Conducting preliminary research and analysis of information in English and Myanmar languages to identify financial, business, and property assets of interest.
Collecting, evaluating, and analyzing financial information to establish links between persons and entities of interest.
Maintaining and updating internal databases and utilizing electronic information systems for evidence management.
Participating in briefings and conferences with IIMM personnel and external actors to discuss information collection and analysis.
Performing other duties as required to support the IIMM's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and evaluative skills, with a solid understanding of strategies for complex criminal investigations. The ability to apply good judgment, manage conflicting priorities, and maintain confidentiality is essential. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and technological awareness, including proficiency in scripting and software development. The role requires a commitment to gender balance and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as Asian Studies, conflict or security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security studies, information management, international criminal law, social or political science, or related areas is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience that includes analyzing financial information or evidence is required. Candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme examination or the G to P Examination may apply without prior experience. Desirable experience includes financial reporting or analysis related to Myanmar, familiarity with evidence management software, and work with investigative or judicial institutions at the national or international level.
Languages: English is required at UN Level II proficiency, and either Rohingya or Burmese is also required at the same level. Desirable languages include Kachin, Rakhine, Shan, or Haka-Chin, which are preferred but not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is funded by extra-budgetary resources and is available for up to one year. The appointment is limited to the IIMM, and renewal is contingent upon the continued existence of the mandate and availability of funding.
