In Chad, SI currently has a coordination base in Ndjamena and three operational bases in Bagasola, Adré, and Iriba. SI also provides emergency humanitarian assistance in food security, livelihoods, and improving access to water, hygiene, and sanitation services. The organization collaborates with various donors and partners to enhance the living conditions of refugees and local populations.

Job Overview:
The position of the EHA Sector Group Coordinator for Eastern Chad involves overseeing and facilitating the coordination of EHA activities within the designated area of responsibility, which includes the Ouaddai and Sila provinces, as well as the Wadi Fira and Ennedi Est provinces. The coordinator will work under the general management and supervision of the Operational Zone Director for Chad. The primary objective of this role is to ensure effective leadership in coordinating the EHA sector in Eastern Chad, facilitating processes that guarantee a coordinated, strategic, adequate, coherent, and effective response in line with sector recommendations. The coordinator will be employed by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL and will work impartially, addressing the needs of all members of the sector group. Close collaboration with organizations operating in the region, Chadian authorities, and national EHA clusters is essential to ensure a comprehensive response to the needs of the affected populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the EHA Sector Group Coordinator include:
  • Co-facilitating the Wadi Fira and Ennedi Est sector group in 2026, expanding beyond previous co-facilitation of only the Ouaddai and Sila sector group.
  • Harmonizing technical documents in a context with multiple actors who have varying requirements and constraints.
  • Addressing the continuous influx of refugees and the planned relocation of 170,000 refugees from the temporary site in Adré to designated sites.
  • Preparing for potential cholera outbreaks during the upcoming rainy season.
  • Coordinating and analyzing gaps by leading meetings for the Ouaddai & Sila and Wadi Fira & Ennedi Est sector groups, harmonizing data collection, and updating needs and gap analyses across the four provinces.
  • Developing strategies for managing sludge and solid waste, as well as improving access to water in refugee sites through existing technical committees.
  • Organizing training sessions for EHA actors on water treatment, network sizing, and cholera response using a CATI approach.
  • Communicating master plans for water networks and promoting the results of geospatial analyses conducted in early 2026 to enhance water network sizing by all EHA actors.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include:
  • A degree in hydraulic engineering, water governance, or project management with technical knowledge in EHA.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Technical skills in construction of boreholes and water network sizing, latrine construction and waste management systems, and responses to waterborne diseases, including cholera response approaches.
  • Transversal skills such as analytical and synthesis abilities, coordination, communication, and the capacity to mobilize stakeholders.
  • Proactive attitude, organizational skills, and strong work ethic.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a relevant degree in hydraulic engineering, water governance, or project management, with a strong emphasis on technical knowledge related to water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0 to 2 years of experience in a similar role, demonstrating a solid understanding of the challenges and requirements of working in humanitarian contexts.

Languages:
Mandatory languages for this position include French and Arabic, with English being a good to have language. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders in the region.

This position is a short-term contract lasting 7 months, with a desired start date of June 1, 202
  • The role is based in Abeche, Chad, with frequent travel expected to other operational bases such as Adré and Iriba. The salary for this position starts at EUR 3080 gross per month, which includes a base salary of EUR 2800 plus a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly, along with a monthly per diem of EUR 60
  • SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL also covers housing costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's home country and the duty station. The organization provides a break system allowing for 7 working days off every three months, with additional rest days accrued for each month worked. Expatriates receive comprehensive health insurance covering medical expenses, including dental and optical care, as well as repatriation costs. Vaccination and malaria treatment expenses are also reimbursed. Living conditions in Abeche are generally acceptable, with access to a more varied food supply compared to other bases, although recreational options are limited and temperatures can be extreme during dry seasons.
