Job Overview: The Adult Education Case Manager plays a crucial role in providing case management services to clients enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the IRC office in New York City. This position is designed to assist clients with low English proficiency in preparing for the job market by creating personalized career roadmaps. The Adult Education Case Manager is responsible for outreach and enrollment in English classes, setting educational and career goals for students, and monitoring their progress towards achieving these goals. The role is integral to the success of students, as it involves referring them to relevant training and certifications, offering career coaching, and facilitating job placement support. Additionally, the case manager will develop partnerships with community organizations and employers to enhance employment opportunities for clients, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to succeed in their career paths.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Adult Education Case Manager has a variety of responsibilities that include conducting outreach for client enrollment in ESOL and Career Development programs, performing pre-enrollment assessments, and creating detailed career development plans for clients. The case manager will provide intensive employment-focused case management, maintaining accurate case files that document client goals and progress. Responsibilities also include assisting clients with resume preparation, job searching, and interview practice. The case manager will identify and engage local agencies for participant referrals and maintain relationships with training partners to monitor the progress of participants. Collaboration with IRC employment specialists and financial education staff is essential to integrate career development activities into existing services. The case manager may also facilitate workshops and refine work readiness curriculum to help clients overcome barriers to education and employment. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Adult Education Case Manager position should possess a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience. Ideal candidates will have experience in developing curriculum and instructing coursework for English Language Learners, as well as experience in a non-profit setting and working in employment services. Experience with a diverse and multicultural client base is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail are critical, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience managing databases are also required.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in education, social work, or a related field is preferred for the Adult Education Case Manager position. The position is represented by the OPEIU union and is subject to collective bargaining agreements. Compensation for this role is set at a pay range of $27.50 per hour, with benefits including sick days, paid time off, medical and dental insurance, a retirement savings plan, and an Employee Assistance Program for staff and their families.
