Job Overview: The Animal HealthProgramme Manager will play a crucial role in planning and supporting the implementation of animal disease surveillance systems in Yemen. This position involves overseeing livestock vaccination and treatment campaigns, as well as conducting pre and post-vaccination evaluations. The incumbent will work closely with the Head of the Livestock Sector and collaborate with project managers and technical teams to ensure the effective execution of animal health programs. The role requires a proactive approach to capacity building within the General Directorate of Animal Health and Veterinary Quarantine (GDAHVQ), facilitating training courses for laboratory technicians and surveillance officers. The manager will also support the development of an animal health strategy, coordinating meetings with various stakeholders to enhance the overall effectiveness of animal health interventions in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and implementation of disease surveillance systems and vaccination campaigns, including pre and post-vaccination evaluations.
Provide technical support to the GDAHVQ in laboratory analysis of serum samples and assist in report writing.
Follow up with the DGAHVQ and agriculture offices on technical and financial reports, preparing payments for Letters of Agreement (LoAs).
Facilitate a 5-day training course on animal disease diagnostics and lab quality assurance for 10 lab technicians from the Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL).
Organize a 4-day training course on transboundary animal diseases (TADs) surveillance and control for 30 surveillance officers.
Support the planning and implementation of capacity building for veterinary extension staff on TADs surveillance.
Coordinate meetings with GDAHVQ and stakeholders from the private sector, veterinary statutory bodies, and educational establishments.
Collect and review data related to One Health and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in northern governorates.
Required Qualifications:
Advanced degree in veterinary medicine.
A minimum of 5 years of directly applicable experience in managing animal health programs.
Working knowledge of English and Arabic.
Nationality of Yemen or residency in the country with a valid work permit.
Strong competencies in results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced degree in veterinary medicine, which provides the foundational knowledge necessary for managing animal health programs effectively.
