Job Overview: The Reporting / Communications Officer (RCO) will work under the supervision of the Grant Manager and will be responsible for coordinating regular and ad hoc programmatic donor reporting for the SI mission. The RCO will also support the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director and Programme team with visibility and communication issues. This role involves improving internal communication at the coordination level and with field bases, as well as designing a communication strategy for external audiences. Given the sensitive environment in Yemen, the RCO will face challenges related to managing donor contracts and ensuring compliance with varying donor rules and policies. The mission is one of the largest for SI in 2024, with projected funding from eight donors across eleven contracts, necessitating effective management and communication strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The RCO's primary duties include consolidating and preparing narrative reports, building the field team's capacity for quality narrative reporting, coordinating timely monthly reports, and managing inputs from various teams. The RCO will also be responsible for enhancing the Grant Follow Up (GFU) and communication tools to track different grant topics. The role requires balancing day-to-day management of contracts, ensuring effective information dissemination between bases, and contributing to the overall communication strategy of the mission. The RCO will need to navigate the complexities of the humanitarian context in Yemen while maintaining high standards of reporting and communication.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and have specific skills and experience in coordinating and contributing to quality written reports. Experience in creating humanitarian success stories, blog posts, and other communication tools is essential. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage conflicting priorities, good writing and negotiation skills, and the capacity to work under tight deadlines in a challenging humanitarian environment are required. A pre-existing knowledge of narrative reporting within the humanitarian context is preferred, along with a general understanding of humanitarian programming.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required for this position. Candidates should have a solid educational foundation that supports their ability to perform the duties of the RCO effectively.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in humanitarian reporting and communication. This includes experience in writing quality reports, managing communication strategies, and understanding the complexities of humanitarian operations. Familiarity with donor requirements and the ability to adapt to the challenges of the Yemen context are crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in the local context and with diverse stakeholders.

The role is based in Aden, Yemen, and involves working in a challenging security environment. The salary for the position starts from EUR 1,925 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly Per Diem of USD 750 is provided, along with accommodation costs and travel expenses covered by SI. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off after every three months of work, along with a break allowance. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations.
