Job Overview:
The position of Production Coordinator within the Creative Media Division at Human Rights Watch is a full-time role based in the Berlin office. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the creation of creative media assets and providing general assistance to the Creative Media team. This includes project management, organizing shoots, and drafting necessary documentation such as security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security memos and freelancer contracts. The Production Coordinator will also monitor and produce reports on the performance of HRW videos and content, contributing to the overall project workflow and content distribution. The role requires collaboration with various departments within HRW and external partners, ensuring that the Creative Media Division effectively communicates its message and engages with its audience. The candidate must be based within commuting distance of the Berlin office and will be expected to work from the office two to three days a week or as needed, reporting directly to the Director of the Creative Media Division.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide production support to the Creative Media Division, including project management, organizing shoots, licensing photos, drafting security memos, call sheets, and freelancer contracts.
  • Monitor and produce regular reports on the performance of HRW videos and content, tracking audience engagement and impact.
  • Contribute to the project workflow and content distribution of the Creative Media Division.
  • Assist in strategizing the growth, production, and distribution of HRW Creative Media public content to media outlets.
  • Manage Creative Media’s relationships with vendors, including music and image licensing.
  • Serve as the internal liaison for researcher training and support relevant program staff in collaborating with Creative Media.
  • Collaborate with other HRW departments on Creative Media projects.
  • Assist with recruiting and coordinating interns.
  • Support the Creative Media team with tasks such as video editing, subtitling, research, and transcribing as needed. 1
  • Carry out other duties as required by the Director of the Creative Media Division.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s level degree or equivalent working experience, preferably in journalism, video production, communications, or a related field. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate prior office/administration experience and possess strong organizational skills. Creativity, initiative, and the ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team are essential. Strong problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure are also required. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration within HRW and with external partners. Proficiency in computer programs, including MS Office applications, is required, and familiarity with Asana is desired. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory, and proficiency in another language is highly preferred. A demonstrated commitment to human rights and international issues is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience is required for this position. The preferred fields of study include journalism, video production, communications, or related disciplines. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of media production and human rights advocacy.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a similar role. This experience should include project management, production support, and collaboration with various stakeholders in a creative environment. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering results under tight deadlines.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in another language is highly preferred, as it can enhance communication with diverse audiences and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position based in the Berlin office, and applicants must possess valid German work authorization, as HRW is unable to provide work authorization sponsorship for this role. The salary range for this position is EUR 45,000 – 46,000, and HRW offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits.
